what horror movies would you personally recommend? :)
I love too many horror movies and that is my only sin, but I will do my best to recommend you some, both classic horror and the horror classics.
Firstly, silents, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (1920) and The Phantom Carriage (1921) are a must watch as core horrors. Then onto the Universal horrors, aside from the typical ones, Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931) and so on, check out The Black Cat (1934), The Old Dark House (1932) and White Zombie (1932). I am not too well acquainted with the 50′s sci-fi horrors, so I can’t say much on that matter, perhaps one day. Hammer horrors are somewhat of my special interest now, so you can check out their take on Dracula (1958) and Frankenstein (aka Curse Of Frankenstein (1957), but also check out The Devil Rides Out (1968).
That’s when it comes to the big eras and studios, but apart from those, check out The Innocents (1961), one of the most terrifying films I have ever seen despite it being from the early 60′s. I can’t help but touch up on Vincent Price, Roger Corman made a great collection of films with him based on the stories of Edgar Allan Poe (The Raven, The Fall Of The House Of Usher...). That’s classic horror, but when it comes to horror classics, I’d recommend The Exorcist (1973), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), An American Werewolf In London (1981), Near Dark (1987), A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984), The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978 version, I did not watch the original) and my personal favourite, The Wicker Man (1973).
There’s a whole lot I left out, but I don’t want to overwhelm you with the suggestions, so I hope that you’ll be happy with these and that you’ll enjoy them!
