Buying a Bowie Knife

I wrote in this post about the history of bowie knives. You see that history can be traced back to James Bowie or Jim Bowie as he is fondly called by those close to him. The knives were originally smithed by a blacksmith name Jesse Clift. He was asked to make the knife by the order of Jim Bowie's brother, Rezin Bowie. After James' victory at the Sandar duel and later conquest using the knife, it became very popular. People began to make requests for the type of knife.

It is not strange as people will always associate victory with the equipment used to perform a feat. Not too long ago we all remember Michael Jordan's six seconds in the air and the millions of sales it brought Nike the maker of the shoe that he was wearing. This was exactly the type of success Jim Bowie and his friend began to experience huge request for the knife.

The last thing you look at is the length. Like with the other feature you have to know why you need the knife. If it is for skinning then the best thing is to get a shorter type. The blades are expected to be longer than 5" they are usually 9.5 " long. The best thing like I said is to consider the use and then the length that suits your need.
