A glint of steel shines out as a sword is drawn to clash against the blade of another. The battle being fought was between two koopas with the same armor set covering them. Around the pair were many others also wearing the armor. All of them watching in awe as the Kaptain was testing the newest recruit. This new recruit was Karik Shelldor a recent addition to the Koopatrol who were some of Darkland's greatest warriors. Koopa Troopas the land over dreamed of becoming one of these knights as each and everyone was chosen by Bowser himself. Something rather hard to do given the king's ego.
The position was a symbol of much respect within Darkland. Few had ever attained this title easily. And Karik was certainly in the same boat as many of the others. He survived many a battle, battles where other koopas met their end facing off against terrible beasts. Yet, Karik had despite suffering through that ensured each mission succeeded. Even if, he was the only left standing by the end.
"You did well, but your form is still lacking. Try to work on your footwork next time. I saw your blows coming a mile away."
Karik said nothing in response and simply did the salute expected of the Koopatrol. In his mind he simply did his duty. There was nothing more to it than that, he would do as was ordered. That was all any good koopa should do in service to their country.
"Follow me, I have a job for you. Lord Bowser recently kidnapped the princess again. This plan seems like a likely win since the Star Rod has already forced Mario off from the castle."
Karik followed after the Kaptain since the test was over. Everyone seemed happy with Karik's performance. Yet, Karik often remained silent as a statue most of the time. He barely said a word to anyone unless a higher officer directly ordered him to.
"You are to guard the door leading to the princess. No one is allowed in or out save for myself, Lord Bowser, Lady Kammy, or Lord Kamek. Do you understand?"
The knights exchanged salutes as the Kaptain left once more. Karik remained stalwart in his work. He marched back and forth causing the clanking of his armor to ring out. It proved rather distracting.
