The Kobe Port Tower The Tower is a 108 m high lattice tower in the port city of Kobe, Japan. A hyperboloid, it was completed in 1963. It has an observation deck at a height of 90.28 metres. It was the the world’s first building to feature a pipe structure, and was nicknamed the Steel Tower Beauty as a result of its unique structure and shape. The design is reminiscent of an elongated Japanese drum, and was awarded a prize by the Architectural Institute of Japan in 1963
