(gift drabble for @gemstolu based on a thing that happened today!)
For once: they both got home at the same time.
Cairis had been about to head up to their apartment when a familiar voice had rung out. Smiling, she’d held the elevator doors for Renget, who’d loped onto the car and flopped up against the back wall, grinning at her.
They’d cuddled on the ride up, checking on each other to make certain they were okay, and then Renget had checked his chronometer and flicked his ears.
“Ko’s gotta be practically dancing by now,” he’d muttered. “Ten doboshes past time for walkies.”
“First thing first, then.”
They got to their apartment and Kokori had met them at the door: barking and hopping on her metal feet, letting her impatience be known.
Cairis had gone to change into casual, comfortable clothes after petting the dog while Renget had checked messages left for either of them. When Cairis pulled out Kokori’s water bottle and snack bag (plus tidy-up bags), Kokori had whined eagerly and danced in place at the door.
“Awwww,” Cairis cooed, “does fluff-butt wanna go out?”
From another room, she heard a sigh and then: “Yes, I do – give me a tick! I’ll get there!”
Cairis snorted – and then, began laughing uproariously.
She was still laughing when Renget showed up to open the door, grinning as he ushered his lady and his dog out for walkies.
