Kole rushed to the hospital as soon as he heard. It was a slightly comforting to hear it from Kimberly, who was assigned to investigate the crash - he would rather hear it from her than anyone. But that didn’t change the fact that when he got the news, he was shocked, horrified, sadden, and in disbelief all at the same time.
Kole burst through the doors of the emergency, running around like a lunatic asking about Keera. In hard and heavy panting breaths, he asked a nurse nearby. ‘’KEERA, DAMMIT! WHERE IS SHE?’’ he screamed at her, when she didn’t give him an answer right away. The nurse pointed down the hall, saying that a car crash patient was taken down that way earlier. Kole booked it as fast as he could, like a cheetah chasing its prey.
But when he got to the room Keera was in, his heavy breaths ceased and his chest tightened. For a moment, it seemed like his heart had stopped as well. He began to tremble uncontrollably, his hands were shaking the most.
Keera, she was hooked to all these machines, with a tube stuck down her throat. Her face, her beautiful skin, was bruised and caked with dry blood. Parts of her body were bandaged, he could tell by the way the casts were put on that her bones were broken.
Kole was reluctant to step into her room, but he walked over to her bedside, slowly falling into the chair placed near her. He reached out, tentatively taking her hand in his. Tears sprang from his emeralds eyes, a sob that he tried to keep inside rocked him. He wet his dry and cracking lips, before teeth captured the lower, keeping it hostage until it started to bleed.
‘’Keera...’’ he spoke softly, ‘’It’s me, Kole...I’m here, sweetheart...’’ He’s never called her that. Despite confessing his feelings, he and Keera remained friends. But nothing could change how he felt about her. His love for her was strong, there was nothing that could destroy it.
‘’You have to fight,’’ Kole continued, after taking a deep breath. ‘’Fight to stay. I can’t lose you, Keer...I need you...I’m not leaving your side, so don’t you give up on me! You stay with me - you can pull through this!’’ Keera was one of the strongest women he knew. Yes, he’s seen her on a bad - and even worse than bad - day, but she always bounced back. And she could do it again. She couldn’t give up. He wouldn’t let her.
‘’I’m not gonna leave. I’m right here. So you come back to me...You bring your beautiful butt back to me, you hear?’’ His thumb gently massaged small circles on the top of her hand, he closed his eyes and sighed a soft breath. Bowing his head, Kole did something he hadn’t done in a while.
