I try to inhabit that person and have their thoughts. I don’t try to patronize the time. I think human nature is eternal and constant. I don’t think it does fluctuate hugely. There are simply different pressures on people. I think character and impulses are the same. Desires are the same. Once you’re playing them, you shouldn’t be judging them in any way. That’s what being an actor is - it’s having empathy for people that are different from yourself. Once you’re committed to that person, your responsibility is to tell that story.

She had a cigarette in one hand and a bottle of Jack Daniels in the other. She hadn’t showered in three days, nor has she eaten or slept. The brunette sat alone in her kitchen, the front door locked - or maybe it wasn’t, she didn’t know. Nor did she care. The last week had been hell for her, having to send her boys back to Boston to live with their father, to protect them from her own. She received the horrible news hours after it happened - Nicolas Mason had broke out of prison and where he was heading they didn’t know, but Kimberly had no doubts he was coming for her.
She hadn’t stopped crying since she found out. What was she to do? She couldn’t let Nicolas come anywhere near her kids, but how long was it going to be before he was back behind bars? Kimberly spent enough time away from Jack and Sonny, she didn’t want to be apart from them anymore. It was bad enough Jack had only a couple more years before he went off to college, she needed what little time she had with him.
And that wasn’t even the worst of it. Her children were very important to her, but Kimberly couldn’t help but wonder what would happen when Nicolas found her. There was no doubt in her mind he was coming to finish the job he started years ago - first her mother, and now her...Hell, she may not even get the chance to see Jack graduate...
The very thought had tears springing from her eyes again. ‘’Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!’’ she sobbed, banging her curled fist on the table. Why didn’t she just kill him when she had the chance? Then she’d be done with him! ‘’Asshole!’’ she screamed, throwing the near-empty bottled across the room. She thought she was alone, until she heard someone curse loudly.
Jax came into the kitchen then. As soon as he did, Kimberly pushed out of the chair and turned her back to him.
‘’What are you doing here?’’ she asked, wiping her face with the back of her hand.

The bartender poured her another drink as he listened, something he was good at. When she finished, he gave her an understanding nod. ‘’I know what you mean - well not exactly, but I still know what you mean. Always a bad idea, dating a college person.’’ Bad idea to sleep with them too.

Kole sat at his sister’s bedside, intensely watching her minimal breathing. His hands were laced together, head bowed slightly, as if he were praying. And in fact, he was. He prayed, for the first time in a while, that his sister would pull through. She was basically comatose, struggling to survive the intense blood loss that almost took her life. She would beat this - and she would do it as a human.
He had no problem with vampires, not at all. Kim’s boyfriend was one of them, after all. But it was bad enough that he was not mortal anymore. Kimberly should remain human, it was best for everyone - at least, in his opinion. He didn’t mean ill towards Zack, but he could not imagine his sister as a vampire.
This was no ordinary hospital, of course. Why would it be? No sane being would bring a pregnant woman carrying twin half-vampires to a human hospital? Kole shook his head. He could not blame his newborn niece and nephew for Kim’s condition - and neither could he be angry at Zack. Kole wouldn’t object himself if Luna was pregnant with his child - half-werewolf or not. No, he wasn’t angry. He was just…scared. He couldn’t lose Kim. He didn’t know what he would do if she died.
Zack spent his time, trying to keep himself busy, going between the nursery with the twins and Kimberly’s room, more so on the later. It did somewhat but him at ease knowing that Kole was there watching over her but still he was worried.
The vampire leaned against the doorway of the room, his ice blue eyes watching the monitors and then her shallow breathing. He knew how to help her, either healing wise or a chance if things got worse, but even though they had had long conversions about it He still couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Kole’s eyes grew heavy, his head beginning to ache. He hadn’t slept in a couple of days, too busy worrying about his sister. But he couldn’t leave her. He didn’t want to, despite growing tired. He could fight through that.
Zack’s scent filled the atmosphere. Kole swallowed, sighing softly. ‘’Still no change,’’ he said, hands rubbing together. ‘’Can’t believe there’s nothing they can do…’’ The doctors have been giving her blood since they moved her to ICU, nurses came to change the bag every couple of hours. ‘’You’d think she’d come out of this by now…’’
He didn’t say anything when the other commented on this being all they can do, even if the statement was false. Right now he wanted kick himself in the ass for all his medical degrees in his life because he knew every that was happening to her, even the things they weren’t saying to him and Kole. “These things take time, her body sustained a lot of damage….but it could mean she still has internal bleeding…..” He spoke softly, pushing off the doorframe to move over to her bedside. The vampire glanced to the other. “You look like crap. Why don’t you go get in a nap? I’ll call if their is any changes.”
Kole bit his tongue, preventing him from snapping at the other. It was no fair to Zack if he took his anger out on him - it wasn’t fair to anyone. Though Kole wanted to protest, he didn’t. He kissed his sister’s hand and then her forehead, before he moved to the door. He stopped for a second and turned to Zack. ‘’If she wakes up...’’ He didn’t have the heart to finish that sentence. Kole knew that Kim would most likely freak out when she realized she was still human. He knew how much she wanted to be like Zack...But she had to stop thinking of herself and realize that staying human is the best thing for her - and her kids. ‘’You know.’’

He was pissed. All the way up to the third floor, he cursed the bastard out under his breath. In his hand, half crinkled from how hard he clenched it, was complaint form. That asshole filed a complaint against him! This was the last straw Kyle would take. It was bad enough his case went cold and he was taken out of the investigation, but now this?
He stepped off the elevator and found Patrick in no time. It took everything in him not to jump and beat the crap out of him right there. ‘’Hey!’’ he spat, throwing the papers at the eldest Rhodes brother. ‘’What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!’’ It was no surprise to Patrick that Kyle would explode, as if he expected it. ‘’Just my job, Detective-’’ ‘’Your job? You filed a complaint against me? For what exactly?’’ ‘’You shot an unarmed man-’’ ‘’Bullshit! He had a gun!’’ ‘’Which he did not use-’’ ‘’He was going for it!’’ Patrick shrugged. ‘’That’s yet to be determined.’’ ‘’You were there!’’ ‘’I only witnessed a civilian lying dead and you with your gun drawn. And I only heard a single shot.’’ ‘’I recognized that guy, he was a drug dealer my department’s been tracking for a while now!’’ ‘’Then why didn’t you call the detective responsible for that case?’’ ‘’There was no time! He made me as soon as me saw me and went for his gun!’’ ‘’Is that what you told Internal Affairs?’’ ‘’Yes, thanks to you!’’ ‘’And did they believe you? Or do they believe the only witness?’’
Kyle couldn’t believe how low he would sink. Well, he should’ve believed but being an agent of the law, he thought different. ‘’Is this because of what I did to you years ago? Is this some sort of revenge plot for busting you and a crooked DA for your stupid affair?’’ ‘’My only motive is to see justice done. You shot a man, Detective Mason. Whether he was armed or not doesn’t matter, he did not have his gun in his hand. You could have just wounded him, but no - when you pulled that trigger, you killed him. And I know you did it on purpose.’’ Rhodes shoved the forms back to Kyle and met him eye to eye. ‘’By the way, for my own safety, I’ve requested a restraining order against you, Kyle. You violate it, I’ll see your ass thrown in prison.’’ A grin took his lips. ‘’Where you can join Daddy.’’
Something inside of him snapped. Kyle’s fists were balled tight and shaking. His eyes burned with a hatred like none other. The comment about his father was the last thing that went through his mind as the detective raised his fist, ready to strike. Until he was stopped.
It was peculiar to Rayne how she always seemed to end up in the right place at the right time (or perhaps the right place at the wrong time). The brunette was crossing through the floor with her coffee and had seen Kyle storm off the elevator and over to Patrick Rhodes’ office with a look Rayne knew all to well: unfiltered rage. Rayne saw how the event was progressing and knew she needed to step in. Her timing was spot on, hand firmly wrapping around Kyle’s wrist to halt the punch that Patrick so desperately deserved.
She had heard the majority of the conversation and was fully aware that this was something Patrick had done for every reason other than justice. Dark eyes were narrowed on the FBI agent, the complete lack of emotion on her face conveying to Patrick how unimpressed she was with the whole situation.
Tongue darting out briefly the wet painted lips, Rayne spoke in her usual tone of voice but this time it held a conviction that said agent Rhodes best watch his step. The tone itself held a threat, but the lack of threatening words wouldn’t hold up should he try to do to her what he was doing to Kyle. ❝Agent Rhodes,❞ his name left a stale taste in her mouth. ❝You may possess a badge branding you FBI, but it doesn’t give you the right to cause upset in my city. I’ll remind you only this one time that you are simply a guest here and I will not have you acting as a child with petty actions simply because you seem to think that badge gives you the right to do so. I suggest you clean up or act lest you wish to find yourself dismissed from my city and suspended due to a pending investigation for an abuse of power–you know as well as I how long those investigations can take to complete.❞
Fingers still wrapped around Kyle’s wrist, she left Patrick’s office and tugged the detective along with her. Rayne didn’t let go until they were both in the elevator and it was moving. ❝You should get a better grip on that temper of yours. Everything he did was with the express intention of getting you to do something that would undoubtedly end with them having your badge.❞ Lips pressed to her coffee as she sipped, her gaze focused forward. ❝The complaint he filed won’t hold up, of that you can be certain.❞ She would ensure that it didn’t.
The last thing Kyle remembered was that goddamn crack Patrick spewed about his father. The next thing he knew, he was in an elevator with Rayne, and she was saying something about his case not holding up. He was so angry, he blacked out most of the conversation after he raised his fist. The detective sighed heavily, shaking his head.
‘’I’m sorry...I can’t believe that asshole dared to throw Nicolas in my face.’’ Of course, that was the best way to piss Kyle off - everyone knew that. Unlike Rayne’s past, Kyle’s was no secret. Everyone knew about the horrific crime Nicolas Mason committed, and no matter how much Kyle wished it stayed in the past it always came back to bite him in some form.
‘’You know...I don’t care much about Patrick lying through his damn teeth - that’s nothing new. It’s the fact that people believed him enough to go to Internal Affairs. I’m telling you, Rayne, the man I shot was Eduardo Hernandez, a drug-smuggler that my precinct has been after for months now. He recognized me, he went for his gun, and I shot in self-defense...’’

Kole knew that sound all too well. It came from him often, but he knew he was also the cause of it. He didn’t expect to find Regan, however, to be the source. He hesitated, despite wanting to just go over and wrap his arms around her. No doubt he’d get a slap, though…Or maybe worse. But he couldn’t just…let her sit there alone…It was not in his nature, especially when it was someone he cared deeply for.
‘’…R-…’’ He paused a moment, before taking a deep breath. Don’t be such a wuss, he said to himself. Take whatever comes at you like a man. Even if it’s a slap, a punch, or…anything else.
‘’Regan.’’
She was so tired of this. So tired of being upset and yet she was pushing him away causing her to be upset even more. Then again, the sight of him bad pissed her off, especially after all those years spent crying over him just to find out he’s alive. Dabbing at her eyes with the towel in her hand she turned slightly at the voice, knowing it was Kole but choosing to ignore it. “What?” She snapped. “Come t’ make me life hardah?”
How could she think that? Yes, his disappearance - his fake death - hurt her beyond what words could describe. But she had to know…He only had the best of intentions…And he loved her more than anything, more than anyone. It was just…he couldn’t say no to his father. He couldn’t abandon him again.
‘’No. I just…I came to…Look, I don’t know why I came, I know you said you didn’t want to see me again but…Regan…I’m sorry. That’s all I can say, okay? I’m sorry…Maybe this wasn’t a good idea…’’
Kole turned to leave, his hand on the door. But he couldn’t walk out just yet…His conscience wouldn’t let him.
