Interview with Ricky from The Delivery
Here is another interview with our 2013 Finalist, Ricky from The Delivery:
1) Why did you decide to audition in the first place?
We auditioned 2 years ago as “outer sunset”. We did it because we wanted to be a part of the Kollaboration family. We knew that so many Kollab alumni are very successful and are representing the Asian American community in a positive way, and we wanted to join in. We also felt that it would be a great way for us to get our name out there (and it has been!)
2) What was your audition video like, and how did your live audition go? Were you nervous at all?
For our audition video, we did an original song as a band and had our friends videotape it. It was done quick, but we tried to put as much effort into it as possible. The live audition was short! We went in and left before we even knew it. To be honest I think we were a little nervous. Perhaps more nervous than we should have been, because the staff members are all genuinely nice people.
3) What was the most memorable moment of your Kollaboration experience?
Walking off the stage at the end of our performance and knowing that we did the best we could. That was the most rewarding part of the whole experience. Of course, we also really cherished the relationships we formed through the experience, both with fellow performers (for 2 different cycles!) but with the staff as well.
4) How have things changed since performing for Kollaboration?
Things have been great. We have competed in both Kollab3 and Kollab4 and had a blast. Each time, we’ve gotten more exposure and have been given so many more opportunities to perform that we wouldn’t have had otherwise. We’ve been working on some new originals and have been regularly performing across the bay area.
5) Do you have any words of advice for people who are debating whether or not to audition right now?
Before you consider applying, get some live performing under your belt first. Don’t just develop your instrument or your voice, but develop your artistry as a performer. Be someone who is committed to whatever it is you’re performing for the long run, beyond just the showcase. Think about what Kollaboration can do for you, but also think about what value you bring to the Kollaboration community. Most importantly, be an original. Find your own voice, your own style, something that you can no one else can do quite the same.
So, submit your auditions at http://kollaboration.org/auditions/ by 11:59PM! Don't lose this great opportunity to be a part of the Kollaboration movement!
