so very excited for the bergman festival competition! i'm watching my favorite bergman (fanny och alexander) in preparation. do you have a favorite bergman film?
I really love Fanny and Alexander too and will often say it’s my favorite if pressed. I love it because it encapsulates so many of his themes from his film career while also having these strong autobiographical tinges. I also like the way it features so many of the people he had worked with (when making it he thought it would be his last film). I sometimes think it’s a shame Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow weren’t in it, but then it wouldn’t be the same without Ewa Fröling and Jan Malmsjö!
But anyway, I sometimes think Fanny and Alexander is a bit of an “easy” answer because I really struggle to pick favorites!
I really love The Face / The Magician, which I don’t think is considered a “great” Bergman by a lot of people, but it’s so full of humor and horror. I was thinking after watching it recently how if I had to choose between that film and Persona to only be able to see either one or the other from now on I’d choose The Face. I love Persona and I think it’s a great achievement and a more “important” film than The Face, but I still think I’d choose that way.
I’ve got a lot of love for 40s / 50s Bergman…
U guys I'm going to start posting fash-ion shots of my daily outfit so start unfollowing now if u hate heeled clogs or faux fur jackets (even tho it's summer)
