It’s 2026 and I’m still thinking about „Maiko-san chi no makanai-san” by Aiko Koyama (Kiyo in Kyoto, Makanai: Cooking for Maiko House).
I’m really happy that there are people who also love this series (especially manga because it’s so pretty and cosy) but where are discussions about my girls, Tsurukoma and Riko/Komaemi? They are my favorite duo.
I love their relationship so much and how it progressed. From annoying older sister/younger sister dynamic to two young women searching their place in the world of traditional art. I love how much they both matured and at the same time remained themselves. How they enhance each other. I love how close they grew to each other and how supportive they are. How they believe in one another and how they are ready to be by each other side.
No matter platonic or romantic, I’m Tsurukoma and Riko/Komaemi believer.
