messing with Komboo's design a little (Super Mario Odyssey seaweed enemy). Loosely based off of Graceful Coral Seaweed (and frogs!)
“Super Mario Odyssey Frenemies”
My partner bought me Super Mario Odyssey at the beginning of this week and I'm more than halfway through the main story with a lot of the kingdoms 100% (for now). I'm addicted. I should be drawing better things but I need to get these cuties out my system!!

Name: Komboo
Debut: Super Mario Odyssey
In the early days of Super Mario Odyssey news, some Mario fans caught a glimpse of a new enemy name... Komboo. A new kind of Boo?! What could it be like? Maybe we’ll even be able to Capture it!
Alas, there was no new Boo. No Boo at all! Not even a reference to them. But there was Komboo. And Komboo is splendid!
It’s flat! It can walk on floors and ceilings! It comes in many sizes and colors! Really, what’s not to love? It’s got the same style of eyes as Fry Guy or Splorch, but on a non-fire-based enemy, and instead of a silly mouth, there’s nothing. It just stares... it’s even a bit menacing.
So where does the name come from? Kombu is a type of edible seaweed! They just changed the “u” to “oo” to make it a bit sillier. No affiliation with ghosts whatsoever! Usually, that would be a bad thing, but not here, since Kombu is already perfect.
The one downside is that it is not Capturable, but it would have trouble wearing a hat anyway, I guess. When hit with Cappy, they’ll be ripped to shreds... but will appear anew soon enough! An ever-present threat!
It’s been a while since we mentioned Minecraft’s Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, hasn’t it? Komboo might be the most well-represented Mario enemy in the entire game! They replace kelp, and do quite a fine job of it, I must say. Also, I pretty much made a Twitter just to take this screenshot. That’s the impact weird Mario enemies have on my life!
Obscure Super Mario Bros. Enemies -. Komboos from Super Mario Odyssey. They only appear in the Lake Kingdom, and the Seaside Kingdom. They come in a variety of colors. Green, Yellow, and Purple. They can also be either short or tall.
The only other appearance in another Game outside of Super Mario Odyssey was in the Nintendo Switch Version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition as part of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.
