Kompliquest V2 Introducing Joor Ghen 1. Tell us a little bit about yourself: First of all I want to thank Thomas and Rasmus for their corporation and above all for trusting in me, in my concept of music, and for giving me the opportunity to deliver the first vinyl of Kompliké! So, when reading my name you wouldn’t guess that I am from Italy. But it’s a deliberate choice I made from day one. - Not to reveal my real name, and only to use “Joor Ghen” which I started using when I first entered the electronic world. So, with this first answer of Q&A, everybody will now know that I’m Italian. To elaborate – I live in Milan, a city in North-Italy. In the everyday life I am a chef and I work in a restaurant here in Milan, and spend most of my free time in my little studio, doing what I really love to do. 2. Louis Armstrong or Metallica? Yeah! Since I was a child I’ve always listened to all genres of music. In fact, my first step into the world of music was at a piano school. Then, a few years later, I discovered my strong passion for electronic music (I was only 12), listening to classic House Music. Then, growing up, I discovered that Dub-House and Dub-Techno gave me a sense of energy! When I listened to that music I felt a big sense of power and satisfaction at the same time…it gave me all that I needed to discover myself in a genre of Electronic Music. And then – in love with the DJ world – I decided, a year later, to buy my first turntables. 3. What’s your favorite city on this earth? There are several cities in the world that I love; it’s so difficult to choice just one. But first of all, let me say that I love my Italy. I have wonderful memories of London, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona and Rhodes where I’ve travelled just for the fun of it. But I’ve also travelled for gigs in London, Madrid and Rhodes, which all had a very hot and crazy crowd! I think that each city in the world has its beauty and each of them can give you something different. 4. Cocktails by the pool or experiences/adrenaline rush on your vacation? I like both of them, but the most important is having music everywhere! 5. Greatest party you ever attended as audience/guest? The answer to this question is the same as the third one, because I’ve been in lots of parties and each single party gave me – and is still giving me – a different experience. I started attending parties exactly 10 years ago, living through a lot of different situations. I feel that everybody should experience different parties and situations to understand exactly what I’m talking about! 6. Three most important things in your studio? Heart, music and fantasy! 7. Desolat or Poker Flat? (Just to get to know your genre as a DJ) If we’re talking about my DJ set, I always do my best to play exactly what people want to listen and dance to, in that moment, and I always follow the same red line of my concept during my dj set, just with subtle differences between each track. However, if we are talking about production, I always try to express myself in each single track, I never wished to produce stuff that already exists (what most artists do today). I believe that if you want to leave a signature in the electronic music world, the best thing to do is to produce what you really feel inside, not what the trend calls! Music has a soul; it has a heart, not just loops. 8. What are you looking most forward to this summer? I haven’t got a program yet for the summer. I’ll definitely be going to London and Lisbon for 2 gigs and I’m going to prepare all the stuff that I need for the upcoming releases and shows for that period…and then, of course, I’ll go on a real vacation!
