Kisame's hand is resting on his shoulder heavy and warm. Itachi leans a little into it and kisame rubs his rough knuckles over his cheek.
"I find this distasteful, Kisame, who knows where those people have been." he said, for the umpteenth time. His lover jus continued pushing his wheelchair forward, silently. Itachi heaved a sigh, and said nothing further.
He knew that this was necessary. He was growing weaker and weaker, his illness robbing him of functionality, and he needed someone to care for him when Kisame was away. His sight was gone. His body was in constant pain. He was all but helpless, his weakness having ravaged his body completely. Kisame kissed the top of his head.
"We are going to choose you a beautiful pet, who will speak softly to you, and give you your medicine and keep you warm." he murmured softly.
"What does it matter if it's a beautiful one. I will not see it." Itachi said petulantly, which made the other laugh.
Inside the auction house it was dark and it smelled poorly. Itachi brought his ivory pipe to pale chapped lips and inhaled deeply the opiates that kept his pain at bay. Kisame, beside him, was drinking quietly, and rubbing circles around the knuckles of his other hand.
"How odd must I look, so young, and yet needing support."
"You can;t cover long distances like before, koi. It's only natural," Kisame said quietly. "I would hate for you to become tired."
Itachi frowned, hoping the knit of his brows would communicate his distaste loud and clear, and took another long puff of the pipe.
The auction began with loudness, which made him frown more, and made his fingers clench in Kisame's, as the grating voice of a slavetrader listed off names and virtues. He zoned out, allowing Kisame to do the choosing. He may have fallen asleep.
It took hours, in any case. By the time they were done, at least. Kisame awoke him with a kiss to the lids.
"I choose five, initially. Let's go out back, and you can see them for yourself, and choose the one you like best, alright?"
Itachi huffed, which was as much of a response as Kisame expected, as he wheeled his lover to the back room, a beautiful statue of ivory and ebony clad in crimson silk and heavy jewels.
