Jeanette Hammerstein (American) - Letting Go (oil on canvas, 2026)
“Sometimes letting go is not losing someone. It is finally choosing yourself.”
still on my mind…
It’s been about 2 years since I’ve seen your eyes
And the world kept turning without you by my side
So I kept my head down and tried to meet someone new
But you were there, in every corner of my mind
I don’t understand why
my foolish heart is somehow still hung up on you
Love had me blind to thought you were mine
But I need to let you go and leave all we said behind
So where can I go to find my peace
When you felt like everything to me
I gotta put myself first to find me again
I know you were never mine so I’m letting go and leaving you behind
It great to see you chasing dreams,
Letting your heart find a way
to stitch destiny by the seams
watching from a distance to see
you found who you’re meant to be
And I’d be lying if i said I didn’t missed us
It might be a waste of time But I know this is right
We both know love made us blind
“Peace requires us to surrender our illusions of control. We can love and care for others but we cannot possess our children, lovers, family, or friends. We can assist them, pray for them, and wish them well, yet in the end their happiness and suffering depend on their thoughts and actions, not on our wishes.”
― Jack Kornfield

I spent mine like I had an endless supply. On people who couldn’t decide if they wanted me. On arguments that changed nothing. On proving myself to people who had already decided who…
kept up at night by all the versions of myself being kept alive by someone else’s memories
