@botan-shirabuki​: I think it’s more because of elements of “modernism” that sometimes sneak into the game. The game depicts a modern konpeitou that is colourful and has prominent “spikes”. Those spikes are not possible without  modern tools.

As you might notice the historical white konpeitou looks more like tiny cottonballs with very small bumps. Modern konpeitou (and the konpeitou in the game) looks like, well... the coronavirus:
