RIP Shareef Abdullah, once Defense Minister of the Black Panthers in L.A. A true friend to riot grrrls and peace punks in Los Angeles. My riot grrrl band Lucid Nation played shows he helped organize and our first CD got a great review from the Panther newspaper thanks to him. He helped us distribute our zine Eracism to prisons all over the western U.S. A great human being who devoted his life to helping people of all colors and walks of life. He was about to be interviewed for UCI’s upcoming documentary short Lost Grrrls: Riot Grrrl in Los Angeles, but he became ill and died before he could. He will be sorely missed.
"Dare to struggle dare to win, if you don't dare to struggle you don't deserve to win." Shareef Abdullah~
Are you or were you involved in riot grrrl L.A. then or now? IF you aren't already in touch with film director Vega Darling please get in touch with me as interviews for the feature length of GRRRL! are being scheduled now~
