@koolaidofthecosmos wait, i don’t know anyone on the cast besides sebastian stan and crispin glover. will you tell me about the actresses playing merricat and constance??? i’m excited to see their work on the movie regardless but idk anything about them
koolaidofthecosmos replied: have u heard the shrek 2 soundtrack
yes but have you heard the bioshock infinite soundtrack because here is the 6 hour playlist of the songs from this game and the dlc, bioshocks 1 and 2 not included
for the book thing: 2, 3, 20, 24
2. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read, and why?
the red badge of courage. i was FORCED to read it for my summer reading in 7th grade and it was literally the most miserable slog i have ever undertaken. just so fucking tedious. i wouldn’t have read past the first sentence if my school hadn’t required it. it’s not even that long but it felt like moby fucking dick, god in heaven, what a terrible experience
3. A book you found overhyped, and why
artemis fowl. it was like, fine, holly was a cool character, i enjoyed the book ok, but like, idk. i felt like i heard all these raving reviews about it and i read it and it came out like, during the time that harry potter was still coming out and we also got eragon and the bartimaeus books (the first one of which was fucking phenomenal can i just say, absolutely hilarious) and i just felt like artemis fowl was kinda hopping on this trend of semi-urban ya/teen fantasy novels with the Spunky Protagonist(TM) and like it was just very meh to me at the time
20. The coolest bookshop you’ve ever been to
kramerbooks in dupont circle in dc. it’s a gay bookshop in The DC Gayborhood(TM) and there’s a cafe and a bar in it and it’s just fab. it’s a nice place to go and hang out and browse and get some coffee. dupont was getting kinda overrun with str8 tourist residents around the time i left for college so idk what the neighborhood is like now but when i was in hs it was nice.
24. The book that you got into because of the movie/TV series/etc, and the relative merits of each version
sense & sensibility. i’m not into regency romance novels as a general rule (i read pride & prejudice -- for a high school english class, to be fair -- and didn’t like it) but i do really like regency romance movies. idk what it is, i don’t have a beef with wordy prose, my favorite novel is lotr for god’s sake, but something about that genre just doesn’t grab me.
but i watched the ang lee sense & sensibility movie and i just fucking loved it and i wanted more so i read the novel and it was basically several hundred pages of the movie instead of 100-some minutes of film and it was great. the movie is such a faithful adaptation; i liked the novel because i could just think about the movie the whole time i was reading it and i adored the movie so it just kinda made the book more fun for me.
idk i think my issue with jane austen novels is i have a hard time getting a grasp on the characters and like, identifying with them? something about the writing itself makes it hard for me to empathize with them, i have no idea what it is. i have the same issue with shakespeare tbh. maybe it’s just the brits, i dunno. but the ang lee flick gave me everything i needed to imagine the characters and like, feel along with them, and that made the book really fun.
