NYC, Meet Scoop St. Mobile and Introducing "Lottery"

Imagine if you could have the best of NYC, from the best local deals to the best local content, at your fingertips? During the last two years, we’ve released a slew of new products for Scoop St. on the web, including Experiences and our totally revamped blog, dubbed “IN.” However, there was always something that our team and you - our members - missed: taking Scoop St. wherever you go on your phone.

Today, we're proud to unveil Scoop St. Mobile on the iPhone for the first time. Over the last few months, our good friends at Koopla have been working day and night to present a whole new experience of Scoop St. in your hand. Together with our development team, they've created an API (fancy technical jargon for replicating Scoop St. core functionality across different interfaces and programs) to plug into the powerful Koopla framework that controls which deals you see at any time.

So, you may be asking, “What does this app you call Scoop St. Mobile look like?” We’re happy you asked, because we wanted to unveil it to you first.

When you open the app on your iPhone, you’ll find all the available scoops in your neighborhood from our website. You can find useful information such as location and images of the business, and can easily buy the deal right inside the app.

However, just browsing and buying available deals isn’t good enough. Once you easily buy your scoops, you can share via Facebook, Twitter and email right on the iPhone. And, after you purchase your deal, you can use it right away and claim the deal at the business location. Show your serial code to the merchant and, voila, enjoy your scoop!

But, that's not all...

With the release of Scoop St. Mobile 1.0, we’re introducing a local commerce first for New York City and the rest of the world. Meet Scoop St. Lottery, a fun way to earn more Scoop St. Bucks by snapping a picture of your receipt after you use your scoop. With Lottery, members now have the chance of winning Scoop St. credit every day - in a randomly drawn lottery announcement - just by sharing a picture of your receipt! Winners will get notified right inside the app. Not only that, but Scoop St. merchants will have the most transparent and vital information on Scoop St. customers in New York City.

Here's how it works:

When members redeem their offer at a Scoop St. business, they snap a picture of their receipt. This captures vital information on their bill, including the Scoop St. discount, total spent, tip, etc.

The captured receipt information is passed back to our servers where we use OCR (more fancy technical jargon for image recognition) to strip out the necessary information per member account from their redeemed offer.

Merchants receive key data on members who redeemed their offer at the time of their first check from Scoop St. while members have an incentive to upload receipt information per deal in order for a chance to win free credit each day - hence, a "Lottery".

It's as simple as taking a picture.

We're extremely excited to roll this out in the next few weeks to our members and show the power of Lottery to our merchant partners here in the city. Our development team of Matt and Jarrod couldn't have done this without the (seriously) amazing work of Team Koopla - Kurt and Chris - and the magical design hands of our resident designer John.
