The use of hanka (hope) as an informal greeting, relegating rinsuk to more formal situations, is relatively recent (2-3 generations). It spread with the famine and danger on Koppai, the meaning being "I hope for you". It can be used to mean "Hi !" or "Welcome !" or even "Bye !".
