Kang Hyungho
INFO:
Vocal in Forestella, and PITTA (band)
Birthday: March 8th, 1988
University Major: Chemical Engineering
Vocal type: Rock, tenor, sopranist/counter tenor
Why he’s one of my favorite korean vocalists:
1. The talent, and the fact that we almost never got to see it.
Hyungho auditioned for Phantom Singer 2. Phantom Singer was his last shot at music, if it didn’t go well he had planned to give up music. It’s a vocal crossover competition program that usually has professional opera singers and musical actors, you know, people with a lot of vocal training. It’s quite rare for amateur vocalists to be on the show, maybe only 2-3 a season max. Hyungho had no such training. His experience in music came from being an amateur college rock band vocalist. He could have been eliminated and we would’ve never been able to see the amazing vocalist he is today.
Despite that, he ended up doing very very well and became part of Forestella, the winners of the show. People mentioned in the show that he didn’t seem like an amateur at all. He was way too good.
2. Versatility
Hyungho obviously is a rock singer, that’s how he started out. He has that high tenor rock voice and often will add in some rougher vocals when performing rock songs. He recently started up his rock band PITTA late last year. If you see him sing rock you’ll for sure think “yes, this dude right here is definitely a rock singer”.
Hyungho also has a absolutely gorgeous falsetto and sopranist range. This style he worked on a lot I’m sure while in phantom singer, and of course after. It only got better and better. You would think he was a professional opera singer, when in fact he’s not.
Being in a crossover group, at least with Forestella, means that he’s done various genres like opera, rock, jazz, and pop. Everything he’s done well.
Performances:
Sweet Dreams
This is during Phantom Singer. One of the performances right before the finals.
Prayer in the night
This is another performance from Phantom Singer. This shows off his more opera style singing.
Phantom of the opera
This is a newer performance of the song he auditions. His audition got 3 million views on naver. Which is wild amount. If you want to see it, unfortunately you'll need a korean vpn.
No Time To Die
First cover from PITTA
Bohemian Rhapsody
불후의명곡 Immortal Songs 2 - 포레스텔라 - Bohemian Rhapsody.20190223
Forestella's most famous immortal songs performance. One of the best covers of the song I've ever seen.
Hijo de la luna
If you're latino/spanish speaking like me, you'll know the song. Forestella did a korean version of Mecano's Hijo de la luna. When I say I cried at how beautiful it is, I'm not joking.
