the thing about sokka i believe is that he is essentially a genius. he, much like toph, needs the stimulation of the mind. the kickstarter for his arc is him breaking out of the isolation he grew up in to widen his perspective, beginning to know the real tangible enormous world that is equal in size to sokka’s ambitious ideas; similarly, a big obstacle for sokka is that his limited means and circumstances cannot keep up with the grandiosity of his ideas more often than not. while sokka is in practice a good warrior and leader most of its basis are his qualities of creativity intelligence and unconventional perspective. he is a very open-minded person; him unlearning his sexism so quickly upon meeting a group of girls who he can accept were clearly more capable than him and deciding immediately he has a lot to learn from them is merely the first sign we get of sokka being one of the most versatile and open-minded characters in the show. said perspective changes and develops and morphs and evolves with every place he visits, even the ones he thinks are bullshit like the fortuneteller’s village, teach him something new that he takes and shapes into a new idea and stores the information gathered in case he needs it in the future.

sokka is a classic case of someone who has all the right traits but lacks experience, and the more he experiences the more he knows and the more he grows into the person he comes to be at the end of his arc and the show itself. sokka is to his core an inventor and an artist and a scientist and he needs all the space he can get, literally and figuratively. he will never stop searching for new ideas and perspectives. the ideal life for sokka in a way that fulfills his personal realization as a person and informs his character in the narrative sense overall in my opinion is him spending the rest of his life doing the things he loves doing the most: creating, inventing, discovering, and learning.
