Listened to some of the co op quotes for Kowakujo and immediately thought of this.
Addressing TankMaya in Kowakujo
My last post was getting too long. If you wanna read the thoughts and opinions I've already addressed on this ship you can see it here.
Sorry that I Cassandra'd too close to the sun on this one guys where I said this was doomed for bad writing from the start. But Kowakujo really puts into perspective that I don't think even the writers knew what the actual endgame was for this ship. To the point that I genuinely believe there is a different writer for each character and each conversation set. So let's talk about it.
Tank & Maya:
Right off the bat the first few conversations between these two are a bit hostile. I liken it to when I was in high school and lacked the maturity for communicating with my own partners. Tank tries to make conversation or flirtatious advances, and he is shut down. Eventually he asks if he's done anything wrong to which Maya says, "Not at all Tank. Not a fucking thing." Conversations after that resume to normal plot related dialogue. Like every other map does.
Maya & Carver:
Carver brings up whether or not Tank has figured out that she is "sweet" on him. To which Maya corrects him that what she and Tank have is purely carnal. Then she states she's planning a Hail Mary in case she needs to spell it out for him. Which doesn't really make a lot of sense, because in Totenreich she's already asking if she needs to spell it out for him. She asks if he's gay and if she needs to become more girly to get his attention. So if she's wanting to spell it out we're kind of already there. And being an outright bitch isn't really spelling anything out. I would argue much like my high school boyfriends it just makes the relationship more confusing.
I think it's also worth mentioning that when Carver brings up the basement and why Maya wasn't there, she mentions finding a timeline where her family is still alive and waiting for her. Not that she would try and follow Tank back to wherever he's from.
Tank & Grey:
Grey very boldly asks Tank want his opinions on Maya are. And for someone who is supposed to be in love with her like the leaks said, he tells Grey he likes her because she's "like one of the guys". He doesn't have anything else to say on her outside of considering her a great friend, which was something I noticed in Astra Malorum. Grey is the one who spells it out point blank that Maya is interested in him as more than a friend. And his reaction is various degrees of "oh" ranging from shocked, surprised, and something that sounds kind of like the start of an "oh shit". It reads to me like a man who just realized he's flirted too close to the sun and he's not really interested in committing to something formally.
So...what's going on here?
Because lets be real, this paints 3 very different pictures of what is happening in this relationship depending on who you're playing as on the map. Either you're going to hear that Maya just wants to fuck Tank, Tank never knew Maya was in love with him and now he's panicking, or Tank and Maya are over and she's done pursuing him. It genuinely feels like 3 different writers worked on this and none of them talked to each other on what they were doing. And that doesn't really paint a clear picture of where their story is going to end.
I've sat through all conversations with all characters. These are the only ones where TankMaya is brought up. So we have no other hints or clues as to what they're trying to accomplish.
Takeo Side EE Story
I won't get voice rips until Kowakujo gets solved but here's what I gathered from the side EE on Takeo. And this is all assuming you already got the intel kind of fleshing out what happened.
After the murder of their father, Takeshi (who is confirmed to be Takeo’s twin brother) said he should behead Takeo for his crimes. Instead he banished Takeo from their land and stripped him of his rank within the palace.
Takeo proceeded to wander as a Ronin while away from home until he managed to cross back into his family’s land. He learned by doing do Takeshi is now the shogun.
He thought he was being hunted by his father’s Shikoku dogs, so he tried to flee. Instead they were demons that began to attack him.
Takeshi pursued Takeo when he came back to their family land. Takeo mentions he is not himself and it’s not his fault.
Takeshi was cursed and tried to kill Takeo when he finally found him. In self defense Takeo killed his brother and took the curse to ensure nobody else would suffer like his family did.
Nyxara mentions that what happened to Takeo (much like Veytharion does with Tank) was not his fault and his heart was pure with good intentions.
That dev that left the Kowakujō directed mode steps in the game files on launch yesterday is definitely losing their job now lmao
