Shackleton Crater on the Moon
Water on the moon would change a lot, and one of the best places to search for it are in the dark shadows of craters at the southern pole, where sunlight never directly gets to.
This detailed image of the inside of the crater shows some of the dark areas taken by NASA's shadowcam onboard the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter.
Towards the top, a boulder has rolled down into the crater, leaving behind a trail in the moon dust.
Video from KARI (the South Korean space agency) about the agency's upcoming lunar probes. The first one is currently scheduled to launch in late 2018.
NASA Selects ‘ShadowCam’ to Fly on Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter
NASA has selected an instrument developed by investigators at Arizona State University and Malin Space Science Systems as a U.S. contribution to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute’s (KARI) first lunar exploration mission, Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO). ShadowCam will address Strategic Knowledge Gaps, or lack of information required to reduce risk, increase effectiveness, and improve the designs of future human and robotic missions. ShadowCam joins four KARI-developed instruments on KPLO.
