Hi! I just want your opinion on relationships with different religious backgrounds (?) I guess if that's the correct terminology. A lot of my friends are like, "If the person's personality is great, I'd date them." However, a lot of the relationships fail due to "religious reasons" as I'm told or as far as I'm aware, especially since we live in the Bible Belt of the US. I'm sometimes afraid to tell people I'm Atheist (not counting this time). What do the admins think?
In my opinion, religion shouldn’t matter when it comes to being in relationships however as you say, it is true that they tend to fail if both parties have different religions. While that is true, it’s not impossible that relationships where two people who hold different religions can still work!
The reason they tend to fail is because both parties fail to see eye-to-eye on certain aspects of life and their values and beliefs may be different because of their religion. Some people have strong beliefs and perhaps they may argue and fight over their values and etc, trying to convert the other or prove their point that they’re right and that their religious views are better or overall the “right” one or that “this happens bc of my religion” or “I believe this is true bc of my religion and you should too”.
Religion shouldn’t be a factor in relationships but unfortunately, it is. Some people may care about it, and some may not. It really just depends on who you meet and the kind of person they are and the values they hold ^_^ Sometimes religion is never even brought up in a relationship c: And if it is then it’s just out of curiosity and sometimes it’ll work out if the person asking will overlook it.
With love,
