Do you want to know something funny about us ? We officially met 6 years ago, but it didn’t work out between us. She came back into my life a year later when I needed it the most and the rest is history.

She is sweet, kind, and she has such a beautiful soul. She puts up with my bullshit every single day and for that I am really grateful. She taught me so much without even knowing it. And she saved my life.

She is so beautiful, but she doesn’t know it. I wish she could see herself with my eyes, I wish she could see how wonderful of a human being she is.

I cannot describe how much I love her. Even if I don’t tell her a lot, I hope she knows.

There’s no other drug

It started out after you got your heart broken for the third time by the same guy. Yuta had been more than a mistake and it would take you a long time to get yourself back out there and look for someone new. That was when Jaehyun suggested it. He was single, you were single for good and you both had needs. It was a tempting offer, it felt more comforting having sex with someone you knew and trusted than to go out and look for a stranger at a bar. After thinking it over, you agreed to it.

He’s not sure if he regrets it now. Part of him doesn’t, because it made your friendship better. You talked about your problems more often, you spent more time together and you still got laid. There was only one rule: don’t catch feelings. Jaehyun was sure you’d never break the rule because the scars from your last relationship were still healing. The part of him that regrets it, it’s because he’s sure he broke the rule.

It wasn’t something that happened over time, Jaehyun didn’t fall in love with you the same way night falls - slowly at first but in just a few moments the whole sky is painted with stars - it was a moment, in the span of a few seconds where your hearts were still beating fast in your chests and your breathings still heavy. Your head rested on his naked chest as you looked up at him and he was sure that your mouth was still stained with chocolate from the ice cream you had been eating when you were watching a movie earlier. He made himself comfortable and thought for a second how nice it would be to come home to something like this. It was like an epiphany and soon his eyes were wide and glued to the ceiling as you peacefully drifted off to sleep. That was not apart of his plans and he didn’t know what to do.

Jaehyun tried to kill his feelings before they bloomed past the point of no return but it seemed like it was already too late. And before he knew it, he was reading into every word you said, thinking that everything you did or said could mean a little more than what it was supposed to. He couldn’t help it, it was irrational and Jaehyun knew that he was feeding off false hope. But it was hard not to when he knew the way your lips tasted, how your touch felt like and how you looked under him.

It’s hard to be Jaehyun right now. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place and he’s not sure what to do. Maybe he’s reading too much into things but he thinks he picked up on something. It was something you said a few days ago, half asleep and wrapped around his duvet that made his heart beat a little faster in his chest as he cooked breakfast. He’s still holding on to a shred of hope that he knows it’ll be his death but Jaehyun doesn’t seem to mind. He’s trapped in this gray area between the friend zone, a(n)(im)possible relationship, and inevitable heartbreak. He has to do something, get out of the gray zone no matter where he ends up.

Jaehyun doesn’t bring it up until you’re over at his place again. You’re straddling him on the couch, your hands cupping his face to deepen the kiss as you grind your hips against his. Jaehyun pulls away even though he really doesn’t want to and manages to speak.

“There’s something I have to tell you.” He pants, looking up at you.

“What is it?”

The words are right there on the tip of his tongue but they won’t come out. It seems so simple and yet it isn’t. Jaehyun realizes now the consequences that his words can have, he could scare you away and he’s terrified of just the idea of losing you. Whatever it is that comes out of his mouth next, will determine how he’ll get out of the gray area he put himself in.

“Jae?” You call out his name softly when it’s taking him a bit too long to say something.

Jaehyun takes a deep breath and he notices you looking in his eyes for all the words that he’s not saying.

“Nevermind.” He shakes his head with a smile and pulls you back in for another kiss.

He chose heartbreak. And despite the pain in his chest, Jaehyun knows he chose the right thing.
