Recent EMPIRE Distribution signee Kris Henry is joined by Ibn Inglor, PGMW, Mhone Glor, Toothless, and Arran Sym in crafting a concise introduction to his sonic landscape that exists somewhere between the likes of Japan’s Merzbow and New Orleans’ Manny Fresh; along with the recent release of Ibn Inglor’s New Wave 2 this group appear to be the godfathers of a burgeoning sound that’s wholly their own. Kris Henry’s 7 is structured in a top heavy manner; louder and noisier in the front, ending with a quieter sound signature in Fear of God and Bullshit. The structure is a major draw, Kris Henry has no problem with vocal silence and uses it whenever he sees fit; hooks are few and far between. That’s precisely what makes this still niche genre something worth watching closely, and by extension, it’s what makes 7 such a worth while record.
