i hate how fleeting media is becoming, mostly due to the prevalence of streaming. a series is released all at once, and you binge it, the internet talks about it for a while, and then everyone is apparently supposed to move on. i saw an amazing edit of wednesday (2022) on tiktok and someone had commented, "we're still editing wednesday in the big 25?" when the show is 1) not even 3 years old and 2) has a new season coming out this year. but apparently, since the show is not brand new, people aren't supposed to show their appreciation for it. when episodes were dropped weekly, when seasons were 20+ episodes long, when we didn't have to wait years between seasons, fandom had more longevity. a fanbase meant something. you didn't have to worry that your favorite show would randomly get cancelled or taken off of streaming. it was normal to see people's love for a piece of media decades after its initial release. and now it's "cringe" to edit a character of a 3 year old show.
