Useful shortcuts for krita if you are on PC and a drawing tablet (I wrote this out for myself a while back, so I think it might help other people):

I'll be referring to you touching the pen's nib to the drawing tablet's surface as a "left click". This list is going off of the assumption you are using the default krita shortcuts.

Moving around canvas:

To drag your canvas around: space + hold left click

To quickly zoom in or out: Ctrl + space + drag left click up or down

To rotate your canvas freely: Shift + Space + drag left click

-> If you want to return to 0°, press 5 either on your numeral row or your NumPad (it should work with both)

Tool shortcuts:

Select Brush: B

Bucket fill tool: F

Eraser tool: E

To quickly change brush size: Shift + drag left click

To switch between your last used brush and the current brush: A

You can also press F1 in krita to quickly bring up the manual, I said this elsewhere too, but it's a very handy shortcut :]

I thought I would share, because I was using krita for quite a while before learning that you can move your canvas around more naturally

+1 Tip, but I'm putting this under a cut because this post is long already:

I see a lot of people having issues with switching to eraser mode if they have an "eraser" at their pen's end. It's because krita's software doesn't work in a way where it would automatically recognize this like other software. If you "switch" between your pen nib hover and eraser hover, it will stay on this brush set on a fresh install of krita:

You can switch to an eraser brush preset by using the "eraser end" of your pen, and it will remember your choice. Now, if you switch back to your pen end, it still stays on a pen preset, and krita will remember that your eraser is set to an eraser preset. I'm not sure how clear this specific explanation was, so feel free to ask for clarification, and I'll try my best.

Hot Art Tip if your program supports animation but you're not using it right now, you can use a different frame with onion skinning instead of a sketch layer. Works especially well if you're tracing a previous sketch in temporal sequence, so you can get all the intended use out of those features.

Set up shortcuts to switch frames and toggle onion skins and you don't even need the animation docker.

Hi, my friend uses SAI to get this paste/crayon looking brush and they sent me 2 .bmp files(“form” and “texture” I assume) but I can’t seem to recreate them in krita.

Ok, sorry for the late reply, but given I’m investigating Sai fileimport right now, I can finally recheck these values.

First of all, your friend is using an old version of the Sai 2 technical demo, some of the sliders aren’t in Sai 1 nor in the newer versions of the Sai 2 technical demo.

Resave the two BMPs in to PNGs.

Then, go to settings->manage resources and import the ‘FuzyStatic’ png file as a brushtip, and the ‘CrayonCharcoal’ png file as a texture.

Select basic-2 opacity as a base to start with. Then f5 to open the brush editor. There, select brushtip->predefined brush tip, select the fuzystatic file set Size to ‘9′(you can rightclick the sliders to set precise values by keyboard).

Then, go to opacity, and turn off ‘enable pen settings’. Go to size, press the toggle before it. Then make sure that in the curve, the leftmost dot is at the middle to get a minimum size of 50%.

Select pattern, select the crayononcharcoal texture. Then switch to the ‘options’ tab at the top. There, you will need to play with the contrast and brightness settings. The scratch option seems to be similar to the strength toggle for us, but I am not sure.

Other things you might need to play with: 1. The spacing in the predefined brush tip settings might need to be lower, and 2. The sharpness setting, turn off the pen settings there, and then treat it as inverted version of the ‘intensity’ slider next to the ‘fuzystatic’ entry above.

I can’t tell you the exact number for all of these things, because I don’t have access to the two bmp files you are talking about. But this is how these options map in the Krita brush settings.
