Ghana Recycled Krobo Glass trade beads
Krobo beads are made from recycled glass products such as glass bottles and various glass products. The glass is pulverized into powder. After being pulverized it is layered into a ceramic pitted disk with a cassava leaf stem in the middle of each pit which makes the hole in each bead. The ceramic disk containing the crushed powder glass is then placed into a mud kiln oven until it is fused together into a new form. The next step is to remove the ceramic mold from the oven and remove the beads to allow them to cool down before painting them with various designs. If they are translucent the process ends with them being cooled down.
