Iris Apfel has passed away at the age of 102. Iris is best known for being an eccentric fashion designer and was the subject of the documentary Iris (2014). She passed away at her home in Palm Beach, Florida.

More is more, and less is a bore". Swipe to see if this holds true. I am saddened having heard of the passing of Iris Apfel. It is strange how much you can like people you've never met. 102 years old and she seemed to enjoy every minute of it. She was an inspiration to many. I've drawn her a couple of times of the years. She was the fairy godmother of fashion and style. I don't believe in life after death, but in a poetic sense I hope she finds Carl again.

Iris trabajó en su juventud en la revista de moda Women's Wear Daily y como asistente del ilustrador de modas Robert Goodman, a través de quien conociera a Elinor Johnson. En 1947 conocería al comerciante textil Carl Apfel con quién en 1948 contraería matrimonio y dos años después fundaran su compañía textil y de diseño de interiores Old World Weavers. Esta compañía tomaría parte en diversos proyectos de diseño y restauración, incluyendo trabajos para la Casa Blanca en 9 ocasiones durante las administraciones de los presidentes Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan y Clinton. Nacida en una familia judía, es la única hija de Samuel Barrel, cuya familia es dueña de un negocio de espejos y cristales, y de su esposa nacida en Rusia, Sadye, dueña de una boutique de moda. Estuvo casada durante 67 años con Carl Apfel, un comerciante textil al que conoció en 1947. Un año más tarde contraerían matrimonio. El 1 de agosto de 2015 Carl fallece a la edad de 100 años, a tan solo tres días antes de cumplir 101. En 2014, Albert Maysles realizó un documental acerca de la vida de Iris Apfel llamado Iris. Su estreno tuvo lugar en el Festival de Cine de Nueva York en octubre del mismo año. La compañía distribuidora Magnolia Pictures adquirió en 2014 los derechos de distribución para proyectarla en los complejos cinematográficos de Estados Unidos.
