This is going to sound really crazy but I don't know who else to ask. I haven't been doing very well lately - I'm really anxious and depressed I'm self harming again. I want to stay at the APU (adolescent psychiatric unit) in the hospital because nothing else has helped me and I think it would. I just don't know how to get myself there, please don't suggest trying something else. I need help and I know that this will help. Thank you, please use the hashtag ksjl so I can find this.
I don't think that's crazy at all. Sometimes you know what you need in your recovery, and if you know that an admission to the inpatient facility is what you need to support you right now, that's a good step.
There are a few ways in which you can get to the APU. Firstly, if you're seeing someone such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or mental health worker of any kind, you can let them know how you're feeling, and how you're wanting an admission to the hospital to get further support. They can look at helping you to file for an admission. A second way is to go to your doctor and ask them for a letter to the hospital explaining that you need an admission. Depending on the hospital, you can either take this letter to the emergency department, or to the APU and give it to the receptionist, who will help you get into contact with the mental health team. The last way is to go to the emergency department of the hospital and let the triage nurses know how you're feeling, and how you'd like to talk to a mental health team member. They'll hold you in accident and emergency until they can get a mental health worker in to speak to you. If you let them know that you feel you need an admission to APU, they will talk to you about that and take things from there to help you.
Good luck, lovely. I hope that you get the admission and that it gives you the support that you're currently needing.
