It's my Bobby boy
Excuse the arms, haha
The species I created for a future webcomic, who are called Odunev, are incredibly adaptable. They have many insectoid features, but are actually reptiles. They are highly intelligent, and even somewhat civilized. The species as a whole has a unified language. They named themselves Odunev, which is a name shared by both the language and the planet. The language structure is generally "subject, verb, adjective, noun". An example of this would be "This run fast bird", where in English this would be "This fast-running bird". They have other structures as well, but this one is the most common. A similar example would be "This bird is run fast". In English, it would be simplified to "This bird runs fast". Honestly I'm still working it out, I was never great at constructing my own language. Odunev have four recognized sexes: Male, female, omega male, and alpha female. Beta males and females also exist, but they are seen as male and female still. Omega males and alpha females are very rare. The Odunev ABO system is similar to that of wolves, but it is not exactly the same. Alpha males inject sperm, and often are the ones to care for their young. Since they have generally small and semi-soft shells, they are able to change their form somewhat(over the course of a few weeks to many months), and trick whatever predator most common in their area into thinking he is one of them. This is their defense mechanism. Since no aggression is needed, they are very friendly and social, thus why they care for the children. Beta males are usually infirtile. Other times, males will become beta if they choose to not have children. In this situation, their bodies adapt only slightly. Their shells harden, so though they can still change form, they can't do so as easily and they do so much more slowly. They are somewhat territorial, but rarely ever show aggression. They often care for orphaned children, sometimes even of other species. Omega males are incredibly rare. They can be impregnated and carry children, but are otherwise biologically male. Since they need to protect the baby within, their shells are mich more firm. The shell is also larger to accomodate for belly growth and child birth(they lay one or two large eggs in one term). Because of this, they are not very adaptable and do not change form almost at all. Since males do not carry the gene that makes an Odunev aggressive, they are often killed by predators or by female Odunev. Omega females carry children. They have similar shell structure to the omega male, and therefore their bodies do not change much. Unlike the omega male, however, they are highly aggressive towards those they see as a threat. They are often in charge of protecting the group, and are often seen as figures of authority and power(although Odunev do not have leaders). They do not care for their children, but they remain a part of their lives and are seen as support when there is an issue. Beta females, like beta males, are usually infirtile. Some also choose to become betas. They are much less aggressive than omega females. They have softer shells, but they are still large, so adaptation is difficult. They often care for orphaned children, but usually refuse to help those of other species. Alpha females are incredibly rare. They inject semen, much like the alpha male. At a young age, they look near identical to omega females. When they come of mating age, however, they become even more aggressive. Over time their shells soften, and in some cases even shed and become smaller. For this reason, they are just as adaptable as the alpha male. However, they retain the omega female aggression, which is amplified by the alpha role(which males would have, if they carried the gene that caused it, but that has never happened). This makes them very dangerous, and they often kill children, alpha males, and any other females. Because of this, any alpha female identified early is killed at a young age to prevent future slaughter of the group. There's lots more to know about the species, so if you're curious just drop a question in my askbox!
An alien and his pet human.
The main character for the comic I hope to make is this guy. His name is Kudlar. He is an alpha male, which is the most common gender and role in the species. He has adapted to look as human as he possibly can. He's very physically affectionate and loves to cuddle, but also very hyper. He was taken from his family before he came of age, so he is slightly stunted emotionally. He has no idea how to socialize. He still remembers his native language fluently, and is currently struggling to learn "Eenglejh".
"Steak meat is where?"
