E N A K M A L A Y S I A It has been a highly anticipated opening. The covers are finally lifted on Enak Malaysia at 248A Dominion Rd. Malaysian restaurants on Dominion Rd are rare in a street lined with Asian eateries. Santhiyas at the Mt Roskill end of Dominion Rd is the only Malaysian after Cinta moved Downtown. Pakcik Charles and Uncle call in Enak Malaysia before a film Ip Man 4 at the Capitol, Balmoral. Stepping into Enak is like entering the home of friends. The eatery is linked to Blossom Court in Panmure and the menu is basically what Blossom Court offers. Furthermore, Chef Hong Ming Chau and wife Moon Chan have worked in Bunga Raya for 7 years. We’re in great hands. Chef Shim Kian Chung and wife Abby Cheng hail from Sabah, East Malaysia and worked in eateries in Papua New Guinea; Abby has latterly been at Treasure Kitchen, Henderson. The menu, like at Blossom Court, is comprehensive. It is easy for us to decide, Char Kway Teow for Pak Charles and Kueh Ka (Carrot Cake) for Uncle. Pak Charles is chuffed with his CKT - the rice noodles are cooked to wok hei perfection, Uncle eyes a rare dish on the menus of Malaysian eateries - Kuih Ka is a carrot cake that is sliced and stir-fried in a very hot wok with bean sprouts & egg. The hot wok imparts a very delicious wok hei to the Kuih Ka. Sedap! Friends Dewi, Ralph and daughter Yani are also at makan, ordering up large. Dewi knows her (Indonesian) food and she’s a great chef as well. She calls out when her desserts arrive as she knows Uncle can't resist photographing them. The Ice Kacang and Cendol Ice look sensational. We applaud Enak for having them on the menu, just like at Blossom Court. Shaved ice desserts are truly sedap! We’re all enamoured by the fact there is a new Malaysian restaurant right smack on the food mile that's Dominion Rd. Enak Malaysa has great pedigree. We’ll work our way through the favourites on the menu.
