Let's make it fast - really fast.
When building products, you are faced with many tough decisions. It's hard to balance the pros and cons of adding a new feature or figuring out how something should be laid out. What helps is to have a design goal for the app.
With Shout, we focused on being "fast". Being fast means reducing friction. This applies to everything - from taking a photo to replying to a post. Here are some ways we employed this design goal.
- When opening the app, we wanted you to take a photo as quickly as possible. To make this happen, the app opens to the camera.
- Once you take a photo by tapping the circle button, we automatically bring up the keyboard so you can caption the photo. No additional taps necessary.
- When someone gets a post, you get a notification. If you swipe the notification, we take you to the specific Shout with comments scrolled ready for your input.
- Replying back is easy: you can comment back or send a "like".
- The app can be navigated with swipes. Swipe left from the camera to see your feed of posts. Swipe right to get to your profile.
