Sunday Night was Culture Night

Last night I ventured out to the Lindenau suburb in Leipzig. I went to the WILMA International Kulturabend culture night. WILMA stands for Willkommens Initiative für in Leipzig Mitstudierende AusländerInnen which roughly means: the Welcome Initiative for Foreign Students in Leipzig. The group operates on donations and organises nights such as the Kultureabend, sports, theatre, and pub nights. 

Although I missed the first half of last night's Kulturabend (thanks to shotty public transit deets), the half I did see was amazing. The best way to put it is that the night is an open stage to talent from all around the world. I was graced with performances from a Russian dancer, modern/traditional Chinese musicians and singers, a belly dancer, Hungarian and Spanish musicians and even a Mariachi band. The night concluded with an unnamed 6-piece band performing a well-known Iranian folk/pop song. Beers started at €1,90 and the atmosphere was buzzing.

So impressed with WILMA and I look forward to future nights.
