ahh hello m! hope you’re doing well 💙
bonfire - describe your dream house.
i actually answered this one here BUT for some reason, i started looking at these playhouses for affluent white children and i would probably move into one if i had $7,000 to blow 💀
pumpkin - do you think that humans are inherently good or bad?
maria, i think you’re an undercover journalist. you threw me a softball about 💞dream houses uwu💞 and then hit me with a deep, philosophical question that’s been debated for a million years lol
if you forced me to pick strictly one or the other i would say good. but if i can go with a third option, i think that humans are most likely inherently neutral. i’m also a big ‘nurture over nature’ person. socialization plays such a HUGE role in the development of your personality and your behavior and what you consider socially acceptable.
there are some cultural universals that we all inherently share - community/family, language, belief/value systems, formal and informal norms, art etc. but clearly, even the way we define those varies GREATLY around the world. i don’t think anyone can definitively say that humans are inherently good or bad because we all bring our own biases into it.
not to get “good and bad is a social construct!” on main, but yeah. your definition of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ isn’t necessarily my ‘good’ and ‘bad’. your background - family, peers, religion, economic standing, social status, culture, ethnicity, education, mental and physical health, career, and more determine how you view and interact with the world.
obviously, there’s a discussion to be had about biology/genetics, psychopathy and anti-social personality types but even that doesn’t make you inherently bad, per se. i definitely don’t have the research, knowledge, or phd to get into that so i won’t but it’s a factor to consider. and this is all from a semi-sociological standpoint! there are so many other ways to approach this question. e.g. the religious viewpoints of the conscience and predestination/fate could change how you look at the inherent nature of humans.
i didn’t want to look at what other people have said on this topic because i wanted to give you an honest, unbiased answer but i still have my own biases that play a role in how i’m answering this whether i like it or not so 🙃 is there really such a thing as truly unbiased??? (also LOVE referring to aristotle, hobbes, etc as just ‘other people’. very casual and cool of me. y’know, just that dude freud or whatever.)
the optimistic romantic in me wants to say that ✨deep down everybody wants to be good and do good✨ but sadly, that’s not really logical. and besides, i love the topic of socialization way too much to ever say people can be summed up in broad, black and white terms.
thank you for the ask!!! i’ve been annoying my family with the armchair sociology for a while now but i haven’t had the opportunity to bust out my skillz [pls i don’t actually know ANYTHING do NOT listen to me tysm <3] online >:-)
