Sorry to hear you’re going to a chiropractor
hah. I know you’re not a fan of chiropractors, (although I cannot recall the exact reason, I’m sure you’ve posted about it before) but having suffered with back issues pretty much since I hit puberty, chiropractic medicine is the only thing that’s helped consistently.
sure, an orthopedist or sports specialist can recommend PT or prescribe me medication to help with the pain, but the chiro can also do adjustments and muscle manipulations to the point where I’m no longer in pain. he has also given me countless exercises and stretches to do over the past 3.5 years (that I’ve been seeing this Dr. in particular) that have actually kept my back in great shape and I’ve had maybe one or two actual painful issues, usually due to my own stupidity.
for example: when I had a major back issue that landed me in the ER my second year of college, the orthopedist diagnosed a muscle strain. two weeks later, my chiropractor had the results of the MRI he ordered and a diagnosis of a herniated disc. one week and three adjustments later, I no longer dragged my left foot while walking.
fun fact: in the last 3.5 years, I’ve “grown” more than a half inch, because he has lessened the degree of scoliosis in my spine (top and bottom curves, in an S shape) which allows me to stand taller than before. unless my entire family has shrunk. and the doctor doesn’t know how to properly measure me. but yeah, chiropractors are the worst.
tl;dr while you might have had bad experiences with and other horror stories about chiropractors, I’ve seen three in my lifetime who have actually been more effective at treatment of major back issues than any orthopedist I’ve seen.
