A-Kin Kuo Tieh
This was a surprise find a few weekends ago when Kate and some friends were wondering through the backstreets of Glodok. We stumbled across A-Kin Kuo Tieh down the very very back alleyways near Petak Sembilan and the now-sadly burnt down Jin de Yuan temple.
Two ladies and a man were standing out the front of the shop, rapidly assembling hundreds of pork dumplings. Steamed and pan-fried, they have the perfect combination of chewy and crispy that we’re always looking for in a dumpling. Especially in Jakarta, where the kind of dumpling we’re used to in Australia can be hard to find.
The dumplings come with a thin chili sauce that works brilliantly with the flavours of pork, chives, and garlic. We grumbled afterwards that we should have bought multiple boxes – at just Rp.25.000 a box, they were a steal.
Price: Rp.25.000 for a box of 10 pan-fried pork dumplings
Rating: Hidden down the back streets but worth the search – these are the perfect pork dumplings!
Location: Jl. Pancoran V no.21, Glodok. Jl. Pancoran V runs parallel to Jl. Petak Sembilan. Head all the way down to the back of the alley and turn right. A-Kin Kuo Tieh is about 15m along and on the right. Look for a stall making dumplings out the front.
