It's that special time of year again when I wh*re Kuroko out to the rest of the cast

I decided on a kissing meme for this year's theme, but was indecisive on who got what bc I'm a multi-ship wh*re. So, I made 2 random choice wheels (1 w/ characters, 1 w/ types of kisses) and decided that way to keep things fair and square... EXCEPT, Akashi rolled first and then got "kiss on the hand" which is literally what I drew for akakuro last year, so I had to spin again lmfao. murakuro getting dipped was also a hilarious roll bc of the obvious impracticality of it due to the size difference, so murakuro got more of a bigger moment 💜🩵

first of all i really like your posts about KNB!!! It’s been not too long since I’ve opened my eyes to Tumblr :) but I’ve found so many veteran KNB fans (esp Akashi fans)! I appreciate how ur analysis stay close to canon.

I have sth on my mind for quite a while now that could be seen as hot take 😬. But I’m just intepreting what’s being written in the official materials. It’s about Kuroko and Momoi’s relationship (and Aomine). I think Kuroko knows Momoi has feelings for him. Okay, so, I noticed how most people say that Kuroko’s just super dense about romance bc he shows no signs of reciprocy to Momoi’s obv crush on him. BUT we all know just how observant Kuroko is. There’s absolutely no way he doesn’t notice it.

Moreover, remember how Akashi mentioned to Niji that ‘everyone has probably noticed [Momoi’s obv crush on Kuroko] EXCEPT Midorima’? ‘Everyone here’ has to include the GOM plus Kuroko since he’s talking about the whole squad :) only Midorima doesn’t know. Another thing is, in the Summer Festival chapter, Kise and Momoi were talking about how they can shoo away the ppl who approach them by simply being next to each other. And then Kuroko butts in and says ‘am I interrupting sth?’ LOL HE WAS TEASING THEM. Kuroko KNOWS Momoi likes him and is aware that Kise is their cupid. Thats why he was fking around with the both of them 😂

Also one thing I notice is how Kuroko doesn’t act on it. Maybe this has to do with Aomine. Everyone in the GOM (except Mido lol) knows Aomomo is end game. Even Akashi admits it. The author hints it in many subtle ways. 1) Aomine mumbles to himself that ‘Momoi already looks pretty in what she usually wears’ in that one CD Drama where they went out shopping w Kise. 2) She’s his type 3) He eats her curry portion bc he knows she doesnt like spicy food then asks her to get ramen at the end of the day since he knows she’s hungry (and doesnt take no for an answer). Maybe Kuroko’s neutrality towards Momoi doesnt lie in his attraction (or lack thereof) towards her, but in the knowledge that Aomine and Momoi have a much stronger bond and shouldn’t be interrupted. Unspoken boy’s code :)

also I get the feeling that Aomine is a little aware of Momoi, while Momoi still doesn’t really notice him that way. For now :)

But with Akashi Kise and possibly Kuroko lowkey pushing the Aomomo ship, I find it to be possible :) I don’t ship in the KNB fandom nor talk often about characters other than Akashi, but I just want to take in what canon hints at.

I have to agree. It would be very odd of Kuroko to be super observant of others and yet not be able to comprehend that Momoi likes him. I think Akashi for sure meant to include Kuroko when he told Nijimura, "everyone has noticed by now", because, of course, Kuroko would know.

The Kuromomo dynamic is interesting because of the fact that, despite Momoi's lovey-doviness around Kuroko sometimes, when they're both just being chill, they are fantastic friends. I don't particularly care for Kuromomo as a ship because it's not super compelling to me, but if I were the creator of this series and I had to make Momoi have a crush on Kuroko, I would have given her a different reason to be infatuated with him. It just seems quite shallow that Momoi fell in love with him just because he gave her a winning popsicle stick, especially because she doesn't seem like she cares about romance outside of that. So you never really see any instances of her being a love-on-the-mind type girl in general, which makes her sudden crush on Kuroko very unconvincing. At least, to me.

I would have liked it if maybe she had fallen for Kuroko because he was different, especially because Fujimaki loves putting Momoi in situations where she's harassed by other boys. Maybe she found solace in Kuroko because he treats her with so much respect and doesn't objectify her. Maybe because he doesn't see her as just a pretty face, but as a valued member of the Teiko basketball team. Maybe because he actually listens to her and understands how she feels. Or maybe their personalities just complement each other. Idk, anything would've been better than the popsicle stick as the sole reason. It would've even been cool if, at first, it seemed like she was in love with Kuroko for just that, but as the series goes on, you start to get hints that there's more to her infatuation and she has deeper reasons for why she loves him.

Of course, that will never happen because Fujimaki definitely wanted Aomomo endgame, so it wouldn't make sense for him to give Momoi a deeper reason to love Kuroko, because her crush needs to be as frivolous as possible to make Aomomo the obvious choice, which I personally feel is a cop-out. You can deeply love multiple people at a time and still make a decision to pursue just one of them. That would have actually been more compelling for me. Whatever. I have a lot of thoughts on this. Anyway, thanks again for the message.
