“Well, it’s getting late.” Kenma interrupted, stretching his arms slightly. “Tetsurou and I have a long trip ahead of us tomorrow, so we’d better get some rest.” 

Kota nodded, turning to Tetsurou. “Thank you for joining us tonight, Tetsurou. You’re always welcome to come visit us at the palace when we return.” 

“I believe that won't be necessary.” Kenma gave them a tight smile and a look of surprise took over Tetsurou's face upon hearing the words that followed. “He only comes to the palace to visit me.”

“So we’re going to Mosu, then?” Tetsurou asked.

Akari nodded, “You guys will be on the other side of the continent, I’m headed for Kurai.”

Akari finally allowed herself to chuckle lightly, patting his shoulder, “Loosen up, she’ll leave you alone eventually. She’s done the same to so many other visitors from foreign nations, it’s embarrassing.” 

He looked at her, finally meeting her eyes as he tilted his head curiously. “What do you mean?” 

“She tried getting with Koutarou, but it was unfortunate she wasn’t aware he was into men.” She grinned, finding the memory quite silly. “The shock on her face was priceless when I told her.” 

Tetsurou found himself smiling too, the image that played in his mind calming his mood. “And this happened multiple times?” 

She nodded. “You wouldn’t even be able to imagine it.”

“The academy,” Akari said to herself, a small smile on her lips as she gazed down. “I never got to go to the academy.” 

“We would’ve been in the same year,” Tetsurou said, breaking his train of thought. “It would’ve been nice to have become friends back then.” 

Akari chuckled, nodding her head. “Indeed. I wasn’t able to meet you when you visited since Kenma claimed you all for himself.”

SNIPPET:

Tetsurou stared up at the stars and remembered the night they travelled to the northern teritory. He recalled the offer Kenma had given him that night. 

“I didn’t think such things fascinated you so much.” He heard Kenma’s voice mutter groggily from across the carriage space, as if he was still half asleep. 

Tetsurou chuckled softly, nodding his head as he continued to stare out the window. “Neither did I.” 

“I could buy you a telescope when we return to the capital.” He offered. 

A small smile stretched across Tetsurou’s face. “That’s alright, I think seeing it like this is enough for me. You should go back to sleep, I can tell you’re still tired.” 

“Well, if you insist.” 

“I think I’ll take that offer now, Kenma.” He whispered to himself, eyes still trained on the sparkling night sky.

Kenma walked ahead of him, toward the edge of the cliff as Tetsurou finally snapped out of his trance, rushing after him. 

“Be careful!” He blurted out, grabbing Kenma’s arm, slight fear bubbling in his stomach at how close they were to the edge. 

“It’s okay,” Kenma looked back, reassuring him with a smile. “I know you’ll protect me.”

“Kenma!” Akari suddenly called him, walking towards the two who had been observing her training. 

She stopped in front of them as Kenma tilted his head, “Can I help you?” 

“Do me a favor and train our archers, you seem to have a lot of free time one you.” She grinned. 

“Actually, now that I think about it, I think I have to go water my horse.”

The knights stayed back as everyone watched in awe and amazement as the first three stars of the empire battled together, moving smoothly, sending one attack after the other like a combined unit. They were in complete sync and Tetsurou could barely keep his jaw shut. 

“Amazing aren’t they.” He jumped slightly upon hearing Kenma’s voice suddenly come from beside him, he had appeared out of nowhere. “That’s why father sends them to the frontlines. Together.” 

“Yeah.” Tetsurou nodded in agreement, and they watched as the trio took down the Jorogumo with ease.
