The Kurpsay HPP was designed by the Central Asian branch of the Hydroproject Institute as the next stage of the Naryn-Syrdarya cascade. The construction of the hydroelectric power station was started in 1975 by the construction department of Naryngidroenergostroy in the slump in construction of the upstream Toktogul hydroelectric power station. In 1985, the Naryn River was blocked. The first hydroelectric unit of the station was launched on February 21, 1981, the second on December 19, 1981, the third on April 15, 1982, and the fourth on November 4, 1982. Kurpsay hydroelectric power station is a high-pressure dam hydroelectric power plant with a dam building of the hydroelectric power station.
