so if i'm being completely honest w myself i know i already said there's old kuserian (first burnosian language ever), old stoelic (evolved from old kuserian by the northerners in what was then cuavtala), middle stoelic (further evolution from old stoelic), and new stoelic and kuserian (the current languages) butttttt the whole 'stoelic was a northern and eastern language and kuserian was a southern and western language' is lazy. the east and west would have their own respective dialects at the LEAST and while i can justify kuserian as being very samey no matter the locality due to the elitism that comes with speaking it and the the fact old kuserian came from the gods so there's very little want to divert from it, stoelic changes A LOT and i honestly think the rowana would ultimately wind up w their own completely different strand of it to be honest tbh. haha.

#i think if i make an alphabet of old kuserian the rest of this could come relatively easy bc ALL of it comes from that root language #but im still looking at potentially 6 separate languages within one language family #as well as further dialects which at the very least has to include the westerners in order to be realistic #like i mention offhandedly some dialect differences w people in far water being said to have VERY thick near incomprehensible #northern accents even to those from the area (both when speaking stoelic and the common tongue)#and also i was playing w an idea of the harasaeons' kuserian having certain differences that only the very upper classes #or even JUST the harasaeons have #and those kind of dialect differences are easy enough to do bc rn i was literally just playing around w far water having lots of slang #and the harasaeons having an increased tendency to roll their Rs like it's not ACTUALLY diverting the language #and that would be the case for the westerners i think like it's more noticeable than Just an accent change but it is ultimately kuserian #as we recognise it. but the easterners.......................... what the fuck kind of stoelic is darya speaking i HAVE to know #to do list: make old kuserian alphabet. make a swadesh list at the MINIMUM but also start working on an actual dictionary #that i can add to as the story goes. and then from those two things evolve the other languages #once i create language rules it'll be easier & a lot of my linguistic decisions do rest in 'does this sound neat' so it's not exactly HARD #it's just A LOT like this is so. much. work #kuserian #stoelic #burnos

some more kuserian bc now i keep thinking about the staff and/or darya & nebetta teaching lilla the basics:

ama - mother (ah-ma)

eda - father (aid-ah)

ilu - parent (ill-oo)

ninamzu - sister (nin-am-zoo)

ahumzu - brother (ah-oom-zoo)

diamzu - sibling (dee-am-zoo)

galama - grandmother (gal-ah-ma)

galeda - grandfather (gal-aid-ah)

galilu - grandparent (gal-ill-oo)

so 'gal', 'zu', 'ninam', 'ahum' and 'diam' are all words in their own right. 'ninam' means woman/girl, 'ahum' means man/boy and 'diam' means person. the word 'zu' loosely means lesser/not as much/weaker/etc, so when it's tacked onto the end of a word it means almost a watered down version of it, and it's usually used very literally. for example, 'iskar' (iss-car) is the word for wine and 'iskarzu' (iss-car-zoo) is the word for grape juice. but in this example, 'ninamzu' just becomes quite an affectionate way of saying 'little woman' or 'little girl' in regards not to age but to the fact she's literally little, same with 'ahumzu' and 'diamzu'.

'gal' isn't as complicated as it does just mean 'big', whether by size or age or seniority. the word for 'small' in the same regard is 'tur', so you could say 'la tur ahumzu' to mean 'my little brother' and it would effectively be like saying 'my little little man' lmao.

#these days now that the common tongue is spoken much more than kuserian these kind of familial terms #are used affectionately more than they're used in everyday speech #so like ive said before drako and rin will just call kiva 'mother' but the moment they want something or they're whining about something #suddenly 'ama' comes out #ive also fiddled with the words for sister/brother bc that used to be komha and kemha #but for the life of me i couldnt figure out where id got them from bc it's not similar to any sumerian or akkadian i could find #and that was bugging me so i returned to my roots and im actually much happier with ahumzu/ninamzu #so if u see the old words in past snippets then dont yell at me #kuserian #burnos

daily burnosian duolingo! today we'll look at some kuserian:

the word for 'day' is 'udzu' (uhd-zoo) and the word for 'night' is 'ani' (annie). this then gives us the word for 'daylight/sunlight' = 'udzura' (uhd-zuh-rah). and the word for 'moonlight/night-time' = 'anibe' (ah-knee-bay).

'anibe' can sound very similar to 'nebe', which is a word for light. there are actually two words for light; bara and nebe. 'bara' (bah-rah) means a bright, intense light, like the sun. 'nebe' (knee-buh) means a soft, glowing light, like the moon. this is why nebetta's name incorporates the word for the moon's light, to honour azaria. this is what originally earnt her favour with azaria.

'udzura' also combined with the word 'etu', which means earth but translates to 'land of' when used as a suffix, and that's where the old name of the south comes from; udzuretu, the land of sunlight. this is originally why it was nicknamed 'the golden land', but now it's got a lot of bitter undertones because it's mostly northerners that refer to it as that, and they mean it more as a dig at the south's wealth.

#nebetta's name isn't pronounced like 'nebe' though #it's 'nuh-better'#i need a tag for this whole language series but i might do #kuserian #and obvs ill tag stoelic when it's a post about stoelic #i think that at least narrows it down lol #burnos
