Why Kuviren and Startrix are literally the same ship in different fonts: a brief exploration bc I'm once again bored while staying at my grandma's

(Alternatively: Are you seriously comparing the complex and borderline toxic character development arc chock full of trauma and healing that is Kuviren to a colourful pony show meant for 7 year olds? Yes, yes I am)

Let's play a game. I'm going to describe the characters in a ship and you'll have to guess which ship I'm talking about:

On one hand you have the ex-dictator who took her childhood trauma and turned it into a political ideation. Absolutely convinced she's doing the right thing and that anyone who opposes her should be crushed. Repressing all feelings to the max. At the culmination of her arc she near damn tears the whole fucking world apart before being saved by the main character after a tearful discussion of said childhood trauma that was turned into a political ideation.

On the other you have an absolute cringefail girlfailure. Feels like she's the worst so always acts like she's the best and will continue walking around with an artificially inflated ego until it literally blows up in her face. So caught up in her own goals and issues she doesn't realise she's hurting the people who care about her. Reckless to a fault and very quick to make decisions on a whim with no regard for possible consequences.

Both of them are absolute menaces to society who absolutely should not have been allowed to meet because the two of them as a duo can and will destroy the world if they so choose. And yet, they're both each other's first real friend and somehow, them being together balances each of them out. They're both key elements to the other's road to redemption. They always stick together despite countless arguments in which they can seriously hurt each other, because ultimately they're better together and are both very, very glad they've met.

If you can't figure out whether I'm talking about Kuviren or Startrix it's because that was a trick question, all of those things apply to both ships. Which just proves that I have not matured emotionally at all since I was 10 and watched Season 6 of MLP while it was airing, and my taste in ships will simply never change

ALWAYS. return to Kuviren #I never thought a silly joke made four years ago would get this far but here we are!!#precious girls who will always mean the world to me #living proof that no matter what happens to you. what you do. how past the point of no return you seem…#there is always a way back. always someone who will see past your worst sides #and will get to that soft centre you’ve put up so many walls around. it’s possible to be loved again #eternally. unconditionally. loved. needed. chosen #that’s what Kuviren are about at their core. and these days I don’t indulge in their emotional parts much anymore #whenever they do come up it’s in a smutty context. but I’ve cried real tears over them. how tender they are with each other #how they were two broken people abandoned by the world. finding their way to each other no matter how unlikely it was #and staying together through all the hardships. finally admitting to each other that what they feel goes beyond simple lust #they love each other. completely and utterly. not despite the bad parts but WITH them #I wish someone would love me like that…#and to think that all this started because of a joke… an off handed comment… a traced over ghibli screenshot…#I love where it has taken us. truly. this ship is the best thing we have ever created and I will not argue about this #here’s to many more years of Kuviren!!!#(it took me an extra two months and two weeks to get this in a presentable state that didn’t make me want to kms when I looked at it)#(I hated the og so much my self hatred went into overdrive and I was so mean to Kat about it when she praised it… one of my worst moments)#(but now that I’ve fixed it I’ll be able to let go of that guilt and get some peace of mind about this piece. let’s hope so at least)

So... I apparently have no instincts of self preservation nor any concern for my mental health, because I decided to take a crack at @atlasapphicweek, filling every prompt with Kuviren, a.k.a. Kuvira/Suiren, my Mingzan child OC, thus spreading it further into the masses :) Here’s day 1 - Healing, because there are very few things more intimate than waterbending healing, at least according to my headcanons about how it works, but also featuring that sweet, sweet Suiren angst, where would we be without it?
