Wato: how's that maladaptive day dreaming going for you? You still think you could salvage that old friendship that scarred you? You're knee deep into a mental breakdown at any given minute but need to keep it together because your friends rely on you
Wifies: okay identity crisis! I see you!! You're not sure what your sexuality is but as long as you aren't abandoned you don't care. You like to care for others because you hope that one day, when the mental health issues you've kept bottled up explode that they'll take care of you too.
Ken: at least three people have looked at you and gone "I can fix them". Your favorite coping mechanisms is ignore the problem til it goes away. You're terrified of ruining relationships and really needs to admit that you need therapy.
Summary: Wifies, a cryptid-hunting YouTube channel, visits a small town rumored to have a monster lurking in its forest.
Notes: I've been working on this story for a while now, and finally had the motivation to write it.

Wifies really needed a lucky break. The last few videos didn’t do well and his channel was rapidly dropping followers. He kept getting wave after wave of comments saying it was ‘fake’ and ‘staged’.
He needed something new, so when he heard about a small town bordering a forest with a monster in it... Well he knew that it was his lucky break. He loaded up his car with all his filming equipment and started driving.
He got into the town around two am, bought a room at the town’s only motel and basically collapsed onto the creaky bed. He fell asleep the second his head hit the pillow.
Wifies dreamed of blood soaked flowers, bones, and getting the perfect shot.
When he woke up, it was to the sun shining through the window and directly into his eyes. He blearily rubbed his eyes and pushed himself up, stumbling to the bathroom where he splashed some water on his face to wake himself up.
He grumbled as he got changed, definitely feeling the lack of a full night of sleep. He perked up when he looked over to his equipment bag, feeling the determination of making the best video possible set back in.
Wifies slipped his shoes on and grabbed his bag, told himself that he was going to get some great footage, and left the room.
At the front desk, he asked where a good spot was to get breakfast and a nice older man told him about the diner on 4th Street, saying they had the best pancakes. He thanked the man and set on his way to get some breakfast and start his video-making process.
He would need to get more information on the monster in the forest, something more concrete than ‘oh spooky thing!’. He decided that he would ask around at the diner and go from there.
...After he ate some food, as his growling stomach so helpfully reminded him.
Eventually Wifies got to the diner, settling into a booth and waiting til the server, a brown-haired woman, approached him. She flashed him a wide smile and set the menu down on the table.
“Hi there, I don’t think I’ve seen you around. You new?”
He chuckled a bit, nodding.
“I am, I’m in town looking for information about the monster in the woods.”
The woman’s smile instantly turned sour.
“Don’t remind me, that thing ate my neighbor's horse.” She huffed, crossing her arms.
Wifies leaned towards her, his smile growing.
“So it's real?”
She nodded. “It is. Ask Ken when you’re done eating, he runs the herb shop downtown. He’s the one who tussles with the creature the most.”
He thanks her, ordering some pancakes before she leaves. While he waits, Wifies pulls out his notebook, writing down the information he has right now.
It’s mostly scribbles with ‘talk to Ken’ and ‘eats horses’ underlined. There’s not much, but he hopes that this Ken fella will be able to give him more information.
Wifies eats his pancakes when they come and pays, asking for directions as he leaves.
He’s pointed in the direction of Ken’s shop and sets off, notebook clutched in his hand.
When Wifies gets to the place, he’s assaulted with the scent of cloves and the thought that ‘This place honestly doesn’t look like much.’
The door opened with a bell and a man with two colored eyes looked up, looking unimpressed.
“Who are you?” The man asked, standing behind the counter where he looked like he had been dusting some jars off.
“That’s not very good customer service.” Wifies blurted out in return, to which the man laughed.
“Fair enough, welcome to Ken’s Herbs and Metaphysical Shop. I’m Ken.”
“Hi Ken, I’m Wifies to answer your question.” Wifies said as he strode towards the counter. “I’m looking for information on the monster in the forest and the waitress at the diner said you’d know something.”
Ken scowled, throwing his rag down. “Fucking Jenna.”
Wifies grinned in response. “Is that her name? She was very nice.”
“Yeah, too nice. Bringing people to my shop, fucking Jenna.” Ken grumbled, scowling as he looked up at Wifies. “Don’t go in the forest, the creature’ll eat ya.”
Wifies looked him up and down, noticing bruises and scars that looked like bitemarks all over his neck.
“Did the creature try to eat you?” He asked, nodding towards Ken’s neck.
The man in question rolled his eyes but nodded. “Something like that, tried to take a chunk out of my neck.” Ken snickered, looking smug.
“Just don’t go into the forest, I don’t know why you want to know about it, but you’ll get hurt.”
Wifies nodded and internally promised himself that he was absolutely going into the forest the first chance he could get.
“Thank you for talking to me, it was very helpful!” He smiles at Ken, turning to go.
As he left, he swore he heard Ken mutter something about tourists and how he didn’t even buy anything.
Wifies headed back to his motel room and planned to go into the forest that night.
Some time passes before he’s finally ready to go, his equipment bag slung over his shoulder as he quietly locks the door, mindful of any noise he might make.
Wifies decides to walk, the forest isn’t that far from the motel and it was easier to think while walking instead of driving.
As he slowly approaches the forest, the wind seems to pick up. Well, he thinks it does, he can’t feel the wind, but he hears it making the branches alongside the road rustle.
He finally gets to the edge of the forest, pulling out a flashlight to better look for a path. When he sees one he lets out a little cheer and quiets himself back down instantly. Better not to make any noise, he wants to get the jump on the creature so he can get a good shot.
He shines the flashlight as he starts heading into the forest, looking around with narrow eyes.
Wifies bets the creature is deeper into the forest, so deeper into the forest he goes.
He pulls out his camera, looping it around his neck and keeping a finger on the record button so he would be able to start it at any moment.
As he gets further into the forest, he feels himself get colder, shivering under his sweater. He keeps going until he sees a clearing and some sort of figure in the middle.
With hands shaky from the cold he presses the record button, keeping quiet as he gets slightly closer to get a better view of the figure.
What he sees makes him stop in his tracks. It... looks like a human. Well- Sorta human? It looks too tall, almost stretched out, and has animal ears on top of its head.
... And it's hunched over what looks like an animal carcass, digging its hands into the chest cavity and shoveling the animal’s meat into its mouth.
Wifies gasps and apparently alerts the creature who tilts its head like a confused dog before turning its head to look at him.
He gets a better look at the thing’s face now. It looks human, a beautiful human, with blood dripping down its chin.
It stands, getting so tall, unnaturally so, and approaches him. It takes careful steps, not making any noise as it gets closer to him and Wifies....
Wifies is terrified. He’s too scared to move, just staying stock still and trembling.
The creature now stands in front of him, mossy green eyes, one brighter than the other, staring at him with barely concealed interest.
“Please don’t hurt me-” Wifies forces out, being stopped by the thing bringing a hand up to his face, tracing his lips with its clawed finger. There’s undoubtedly blood on his face now, he can taste it seeping into his mouth.
“Hush.” The creature speaks finally, voice sounding like whispers stacked on top of each other.
It uses its other hand to gently hold his face, guiding it to the side then back, staring with rapt interest.
Wifies whimpers in fear, staring wide eyed into the creature’s eyes.
“Yes.” It hums, seemingly deciding something. It softly blows in his eyes, startling a yelp out of him before he feels his consciousness slip away.
The last thing he feels as he passes out is the creature catching him and pulling him against its chest, making a purring noise.
Kwwblr discord has already seen this, but would anyone be interested in a YouTube video talking about Wato 's storytelling (End Barrens, Zero World, SMP videos, etc.) ?
It'd be like a video essay thing And I'd probably get other people's opinions featured in the video (IF I DO IT. I'm a full time student and this would be over my winter break, I just think Wato deserves more recognition for their amazing content)
Can we talk about "Evading capture"? Because it really struck me where even UU videos can't. It showcases emotion, adventure, skill, professionalism in time constraints. All the things I love but from the perspective of a background character. They're not leaders, the plot is built on often omitted but arguably the most vital part of an escape
Avatar manages to tell a convincing story that is both funny at some times and threatening at others, i can absolutely take it seriously like woah. You also get an opportunity to choose things you would in an actual scenario!
The whole video is a debunk to me. They prove that evading capture, the part that is excluded from the narrative for how anticlimactic it is, can make for a breathtaking plot itself. And it's executed with ParrotX2 quality, truly underrated for how many views it has
plus there's kenwato (awesome acting). go watch it
