Day One: Just A Lil Guy

Obviously today's prompt had to be Marn, and slubby supercoils are the best Marn Yarn I could think of. Spun from a soft brown fleece from a Shetland sheep named Rosemary, this yarn has a lot of energy in a small package! The little chunks formed by the slubs have big Marn energy in my brain. Thinking of this yarn for the first prompt is what inspired me to spin different yarns for each day of this year's 15 Days of FatT!

Materials:

Core: grey wool, breed unknown

Day Two: Blades/Swords

I dare you to find me a commercially produced yarn that has swords in it.

Inspired specifically by The Blade in the Dark, this yarn is a thin steel-grey merino wool singles plied with a thicker polwarth wool singles in shades of grey, red, orange, and yellow. The thin grey singles has been strung with ruby-red beads and pulled away from the fire-tone strand, then twisted in on themselves. This creates a bit of yarn perpendicular to the main strand.

In technical terms, this is a beaded pigtail gimp yarn.

Grey merino wool

Black, grey, red, orange, yellow polwarth wool

Red glass seed beads

Day Four: Saplings

Liberty and Discovery, soul gold and ocean green, twine together in a balanced ply. Wrapping around them, unbalanced, tangled, and confused, the Candidate Chital, who holds a single seashell. The end of the Candidate's string is hidden in a cocoon of grey acrylic, the disruptive and uncaring Rigour.

This is a two-ply yarn with an autowrapped thread, a "bead," and a single cocoon.

Gold and teal fine wool, likely merino or targhee

White bamboo fiber

Grey Hobby Lobby acrylic (it was a GIFT i did NOT BUY IT and if I had a receipt I'd return it or something but I don't. So I'm using it to represent the most evil capitalist machine I can think of.)

Day Six: Haunted/Ghost

I could have waited for my silkworms to hatch and made little ghosties out of their emptied cocoons, but that was too literal and not FatT-themed enough for me. 😂

I think if anyone haunted someone while still alive, Gur and Clem haunted each other.

Gur is depicted here with a core of Leonberger (breed of big dog, descended from guardian breeds, turned symbolic and made into meek companions). The core has spider-like clusters of pigtails. Wrapped around this core, a few breeds of longwools, in grey, blue/teal, and orange, creating a cloud yarn.

Twisting the opposite way, straining against Gur's influence, throwing them offkilter and put under stress by the intertwining of the two, Clem is represented by white wool plied with gold-toned silk. The silk is wrapped around the wool in places in a technique known as bullion or captured coil.

I was reading about opposing plies last week and thought "Wow, that's weird. Why would I ever want to spin a yarn that could never be in balance with itself?" Well,,,

Day Three: Devotion

This yarn reminds me of a heart monitor screen, so it was the first I thought of for the Church of Devotion. The other reason this yarn fits Devotion is the simple fact that these scant nine yards took five goddamn hours to ply. In other yarns, nine yards will take like ten minutes to ply. So.

This is a three color three-ply pigtail yarn.

Unknown wool in blue, purple, and pink.

Day Seven: Cut Loose

I'm gonna be real, this one is all vibes. Lockspinning is my favorite way to spin yarn. Cut loose eps are my favorites to listen to. This yarn is light, fun, and bouncy, just like cutting loose sequences!
