The Idaho Steelheads have re-signed forward Kyle Schempp for the 2019-20 season.
BOISE, Idaho – Forward Kyle Schempp has agreed to terms with the Idaho Steelheads, returning for the 2019-20 season.
The Steelheads are the ECHL affilaite of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars and the American Hockey League's Texas Stars.
Schempp appeared in 70 games with the Steelheads in 2018-19, tallying 41 points (16g-25a) with five power-play goals, two shorthanded goals and a +10 rating. The Saginaw, Michigan native set new career highs in all categories while playing all but two games. He also finished tied for first on the team in shorthanded points (three), third in assists and fourth in overall scoring.
In 114 career ECHL games, the 25-year-old has posted 64 points (25g-39a) after making his ECHL debut with the Missouri Mavericks on Nov. 4, 2016. Schempp has also played in 46 career AHL games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, making his professional debut in the 2015-16 season and grabbing nine points (3g-6a).
Prior to his professional career, Schempp played three seasons at Ferris State University, totaling 66 points (29g-37a) in 121 games while serving as an alternate captain in 2015-16 and being named to the NCAA All-Rookie Team in 2014. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the sixth round (155th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Idaho’s Kyle Schempp has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as the result of a slew-footing infraction at 14:24 of the second period.
Schempp will miss Idaho’s playoff game at Utah on April 19.
Utah’s Jake Marchment has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as a result of an unpenalized illegal check to head at 18:46 of the third period.
Marchment will miss Utah’s playoff games vs. Utah on April 19 and April 20.
