NEW YORK - St. Louis Blues forward David Perron has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for cross-checking Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri during Game 4 of the teams' Second Round series in St. Louis on Monday, May 23, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 5:30 of the second period. Perron was assessed a minor penalty for cross-checking.
The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Capitals forward tested positive for prohibited substance at World Championships
Evgeny Kuznetsov has been suspended four years by the International Ice Hockey Federation for testing positive for cocaine.
The Washington Capitals forward has voluntarily entered the Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program (SABH), run by the National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association. He has not been suspended by the NHL but must meet with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss the situation before the Capitals open training camp on Sept. 13.
Kuznetsov was tested on May 26 at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship where he was representing Russia.
Adam Lowry will have a hearing with NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday.
The Winnipeg Jets forward is facing discipline for boarding Calgary Flames defenseman Oliver Kylington on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the Flames zone at 20:00 of the second period during Winnipeg's 2-1 overtime win at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan, in the 2019 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. Lowry received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding. Kylington continued to play the rest of the game.
The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: boarding. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
Forward violated terms of NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program
NEW YORK - Vegas Golden Knights forward Valentin Zykov has been suspended for 20 games, without pay, for violating the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the suspension is accompanied by mandatory referral to the NHL/NHLPA Program for Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health for evaluation and possible treatment.
The National Hockey League will have no further comment on this matter.
Golden Knights statement on Zykov
The Vegas Golden Knights issued the following statement, today, October 17, regarding the suspension of Valentin Zykov:
"We were notified by the NHL and NHLPA that Valentin has violated the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. We monitor the nutrition, supplement intake, and overall diet of our athletes on a continual basis throughout our entire season. Valentin knowingly used a banned substance without the consent, recommendation or knowledge of our team. We support the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program and respect the decision here."
The NHL announced today, October 17, that Zykov has been suspended for 20 games, without pay, for violating the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program.
Statement from Valentin Zykov:
"I've been informed that I am being suspended for 20 games under the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. While I haven't been able to discover how I tested positive, I understand that I am responsible for what is in my body and will accept this penalty. I want to apologize to my family, my teammates, and the Golden Knights organization and fans. I will work hard during my suspension to ensure that I put myself in the best possible position to contribute to my team when my suspension is over."
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League today announced that Rockford IceHogs forward Dylan Sikura has been suspended for one (1) game as a consequence of a high-sticking incident in a game vs. San Antonio on Oct. 30.
Sikura was suspended under the provisions of AHL Rule 21.1 after being assessed a match penalty. He will miss Rockford’s game Saturday (Nov. 2) vs. Iowa.
Forward disciplined for actions against Gudbranson of Ducks
TORONTO - Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway has been suspended for three games, without pay, for a spitting incident involving Anaheim defenseman Erik Gudbranson during NHL Game No. 316 in Washington on Monday, Nov. 18, the National Hockey League announced today.
The incident occurred at 19:26 of the second period. Hathaway was assessed a match penalty.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Hathaway will forfeit $24,193.53. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Defenseman on leave; move called 'procedural' by coach
Dustin Byfuglien has been suspended by the Winnipeg Jets for not reporting to training camp.
The defenseman was granted a personal leave of absence last Friday, the day the Jets opened training camp, and was suspended Saturday. The suspension was confirmed by coach Paul Maurice on Sunday.
"It's absolutely procedural and Dustin was aware of it," Maurice said.
Byfuglien met with Maurice on Thursday before his leave of absence continued into its second week.
"I'm not making any comments," Maurice said Friday. "He's got a life. I love the guy. I sat down and had a wonderful conversation with him yesterday, and it was great. That's it."
