These weren’t witches here in Wonderland. But Sayaka still felt a responsibility to battle these monsters and help protect people if needed. Someone had to do it, and if she was still breathing then she knew it had to be her.
This current monster was smaller in size compared to the others that she had fought. But it was fast, ruthless, and she couldn’t keep up. At least not alone.
The monster struck her with one of its hands, its claws barely grazing her chest as he shoved her backward with the other hand. She had already been wincing at the contact--it burned, it burned so much--but the push had her screaming as she crashed into the side of a car.
She pushed herself up and leaned against the car. Her eye stung when she opened it because of the blood; she must have hit her head when she fell. God, Sayaka was so dizzy.
She narrowly missed the monster’s claws as it came towards her, rolling out of the way in desperation. Her head throbbed and she couldn’t even see straight. She just needed a moment to regenerate--but the repercussions would leave her an easy target.
Her eyes grew heavy as they closed just for a minute, a moment for bearing and calming. But it was just the minute that the monster needed. Blue eyes widened as the monster drew close. And Sayaka didn’t have the strength that she needed to roll away, so she screamed. Because she was afraid and alone. And no one could help.
