Any chance we can hear about what episode (or episodes) you're looking forward to us getting to in season 2?

Weeeeelll, there are more so moments I’m excited for rather than actual episodes. But there are a couple I’m excited about.

Chapter 22: Accepting Average (Escaping Expulsion) is kinda something I’m looking forward to. But the big ones are Chapter 25: What Lealtad Found Tonight (Through the Looking Glass Ruins), Chapter 26: Hunting Palismen, Chapter 33: It’s All About Exposure (Any Sport in a Storm), Chapter 34: Hands, Touching Hands (Reaching Out), and Chapter 38: Grief Remedy (Labyrinth Runners).

These are the ones I have the most scenes written out for already.

I'm torn between wanting Loyalty & Light sooner vs wanting it all in one so I can read it all consecutively 😭😭😭 I guess if I had to choose I'd rather have all of season 2 done first so I can read it all as one big thing. Why DO you upload bi-weekly though, if you don't mind me asking?

Ooh, a fair question, Anon!

Well, having the story update in a bi-weekly basis offers two things: at minimum, two chaps a month and a flexible schedule. Having at least two chaps a month is at least giving you guys some content while also giving me time to make edits if need be.

Though there hasn’t been a case of this for season 1B of Loyalty & Light, it was still a nice incentive to have as I also had time between weeks to respond to comments, asks, and DMs regarding the last chap released. Having a week gap in-between chapters is also a nice break for myself to just do other things and step away from fanfiction. While I still check in and reply to every comment, a week gap gives me a nice separation from thinking about my fanfics.

But also, at the time, I was simultaneously releasing The Most Undoing Thing. TMUT rotated with L&L every week, and that gap also allowed for my followers—because of my mixed followers of fandoms—to have a semi cohesive blog to catch up on. One week would be about TMUT and the other would be about L&L. I also still plan to release other fics and oneshots, so the gap allows for me to insert things without disturbing the attention from L&L.

It’s just something of a personal preference of mine too, as a multi-fandom blog trying to be somewhat orderly.

Do you regret having Luz and Lealtad already Out in L&L? Considering how TOH makes it a scene in S3, and Luz's thing about being understood, I feel like there would be more to work with if the two were still closeted... or even closeted from each other!

Ooooh, good question!

So, I talked about this a bit in this ask, and while I haven’t gotten there yet in terms of my actual writing I can confidently say I don’t have any regrets.

You are right though, if I hadn’t made them Out already there would’ve been plenty to play with in terms of drama and emotion when going over both their own arcs of sexuality throughout this fic. But, just because they’re Out doesn’t mean that they’re done growing. I won’t spoiling anything for Leal, but for Luz, her being Out or confident in her bisexuality doesn’t change the fact that she’s still had to hide it or be private about it publicly. Much like the show, it still doesn’t change that she hasn’t had a girlfriend before either.

That’s a still important to Luz’s journey. But for Leal, her being Out serves a great deal of value for the Nocedas. She encouraged Luz to come out and it led to them being stronger as a family, but it also opened themselves up to more vulnerabilities. If you recall in chapter 1, Luz still holds insecurities about their mother’s view on her sexuality it seems. At least, enough to explode about it in the heat of the moment.

Lealtad is proud to be Ace, but she doesn’t advertise it because she just doesn’t like people, so she thinks it’s no one’s business. But the Isles presents new opportunities for her too, so who knows where that can lead too!

But no, I definitely don’t regret having them Noceda sisters already Out in L&L. After all, as I’ve said before, if Leal was as good as a big sister as she’s made out to be, Luz would definitely feel comfortable enough to at least tell Leal. And that would thus snowball toward telling Camila, because Leal thinks as a family they should trust each other.

Why does Lealtad hate carnivals so much? Another Manny thing?

Not everything is related to Manny guys.😅 Sometimes people just have their own quirks. Leal hates carnivals for the very reasons she says in chapter 15. They’re overly crowded, expensive, tacky, etc. It’s just not her kinda scene is all.

A lot of these recent chapters seem to focus on Leal's grief with Manny (girl has Trauma™) How old was Leal when he died? I still feel like even if she was older, she and LUz would be equally hung up on it

People handle grief in different ways, Anon!

It’s only being mentioned so much now since the actual series is finished and all about Manny has been revealed, meaning I can add or move things to L&L canon as I see fit. Essentially, giving more depth to Leal’s past way earlier in the story!

To answer your question, chapter 12, it’s mentioned subtly in the story but confirmed in the A/N that Lealtad was ten years old when Manny died, meaning Luz was just seven (this happens before Luz does her About The Author picture). I don’t think it’s necessary to compare the two in how they managed to cope and grieve, as everyone makes their peace in different ways.

In Luz’s case, we can ascertain that the Azura series definitely helped in her coping as she was within her stages of grief. In “Reaching Out”, we see she’s at a point where she doesn’t even talk about him much if at all. Leal might’ve tried talking about him once or twice in the past, to her sister and mother, and met with conclusive results. Camila seemed to take it hard and found it rough to talk about, but Luz was the one who avoided around the idea the most. So for the most part, she doesn’t mention her father much around them.

For Leal’s case, she managed to cope by attaching herself to duty. Manny being gone left a void and Leal tried to fill it to keep everyone afloat and happy. We’ll definitely see/hear more about this way later, but I’m just expressing that the aspects of Manny that Leal’s still influenced by come from her older age when they lost him. She’s older than Luz so she had more thinking to do, and at the same time, was also more aware of the signs of their father’s deteriorating health.

All in all, what I’m assuming you’re getting at, is that Leal seems to be really hung up on Manny while Luz isn’t. Thing is, context of these chapters are only giving the insight of that: remove that, and honestly Lealtad seems pretty okay and chill most of the time. It’s just knowing her past is what makes things more clear that, “Oh, she’s definitely not over Manny.” But she doesn’t think of herself as defined by that loss or anything, and she doesn’t see any parallels or problems herself.

Hard to look inward and all that.

So it seems like Leal's entered yet another love interest plot. Does she REALLY not notice Edric's crush on her?? Are they gonna end up together?

Also, for the first question, in fairness to Leal: she hasn’t spent as much time with Edric as she has for Willow. Even for Willow’s case, it took her several chapters to fully realize the girl had a crush on her. This is only her fourth time interacting with Edric. She still doesn’t have a good grasp at relationships or anything, and Edric’s awkwardness—while similar—has yet to be as blatant as Willow. I mean, in time, who knows?

Sorry if this is a spoilery ask, but I was wondering, how does Luz's "misunderstood" theme work in L&L if she grew up with Lealtad? Wouldn't that mean there WAS someone who understood her growing up?

Don’t worry this isn’t spoilerly (also I know this was like a month old ask sorry)

I feel like it’s kinda clear, but I guess it still early on in the series to notice, but Lealtad doesn’t really get Luz. If you recall the first chapter, she knows her sister well, but she’s also similar to Camila in that she’s reigning in Luz’s quirks. It’s not the point of anything malicious or mean, but Leal just agrees with her mom in that Life is easier if you coast by with everyone else.

But again, Leal doesn’t really get everyone else. She knows Luz and is fine with that, that’s all she cares about. Still, for as much as she wants to protect and look after Luz she doesn’t always get Luz’s Luziness. It’s why she doesn’t really pull her back from being impulsive or excitable all the time.

So yeah, Luz’s theme of misunderstood not only still applies but it fits very well here. Even though Leal’s the closest person in her life, sometimes Luz doesn’t feel like her sister is really understanding her. We’ve seen moments of this, but for now, chapter 9 is the best example of what I’m talking about.
