Flat above The Shade
OPEN
“Fucking --- which one of you assholes left your cell phone lying on the floor?”
The answer to that question, like many before it, turned out to be Fabian. Fabian was the asshole. Recognizing the distinct shade of red and the dramatic outline of flames crowding the phone’s back cover (a dire symptom of Fragile Man Ego and a sad need to overcompensate, she’d always said), Bellatrix recovered from her brief tumble, scowling, and plucked the phone off the floor. It was time for another Prewett family lesson.
Her feet led her over to the flat’s small kitchen area, taking care not to trip over the various obstacles in her way (clothes, bags of chips, beer cans, and was that an axe ---) before coming to a stop in front of the sink. With all the sternness of a woman about to commit a capital offense, Bellatrix flipped on the switch for the garbage disposal just as Fabian’s phone buzzed in her hands. The Pokemon Go logo flashed across the screen and Bellatrix scoffed, as if having just discovered another reason to want to gut her beloved brother. “Kiss my ass, Pikachu,” she muttered under her breath, dropping the phone down the sink without further ado.
There was a loud pop and an even greater crunch, aluminum and glass breaking apart and scraping together against the kitchen’s pipes, a terribly grating noise that clearly signaled no good, but that Bellatrix chose to interpret as music to her petty ears. It wasn’t quite loud enough to deter from the sound of someone entering the flat, though, and she waved a hand, not bothering to spare a glance in their direction. “Come back later,” she yelled over the metallic sounds of an iPhone being brutally murdered. “I’m busy.”
